THE SACRED BO TREE - SRI LANKA
Sri Maha Bodi (The Sacred Bo-Tree) has grown from a cutting of the Bo-tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. It is over 2250 years old and planted on this spot in Sri Lanka, bowl and all. The tree itself is not a very impressive specimen, but it is, nevertheless, protected by armed guards and venerated by almost everyone for its association with the source of Buddhism.
