The Project Begins...

The first pictures here are in May, 2000 just before the driveline swap, and other modifications. Which took almost 5 months to complete.

I had been looking for a shell for a long time. Seems like every time I would find one, the owner would think that it was made of gold or platinum. The reast of the time, they weren't good enough to waste the time it would take to break them up. One day I'm looking through the classifieds on Team Chevelle, and I find a shell, FREE!

I emailed the owner back & forth a few times trying to coordinate my nephew or brother meeting him to check it out as he was 270 miles away in San Juan Capistrano. I finally had to come down myself. Hoping that it was in good condition, I get there, and aside from a couple of real minor things the shell is almost perfect. Well, except it's purple. But for FREE who can complain!!

Turns out the shell was originally from the guy that started Kamino World, and the Kamino Nationals, which was an all Chevelle/El Camino car show & drag races, held at LACR in Palmdale, CA. You can still see it has the Kamino World decals in the side windows. Anyway, now the shell looks good, & shiny, so I have to wash & wax the rest of the Elky.

After taking those pictures, I realized how long it had been since I had washed & waxed My Elky. I decided that since It was going to be in the shop for quite a while I had better wash it at least. I'm sure a lot of you know what it's like to try to get grease & oil stains out of oxidized paint.

Isn't it amazing how much color can be hidden by a little oxidation. This Elky almost looked white, a little elbow grease, soap & water, and some wax She doesn't look to bad. (from a distance) :)
