...In With The New!

Here is the new powerplant for the Elky. It is a 1994 Z28 Camaro Lt-1 with a 4L60e Transmission. This combo only has 14,000 miles on it, It ain't even broke in yet. Hehehe

Note you can see Ol' Yeller in the background of both pictures. Ol' Yeller looks pretty pathetic.

First Test Fit!

This is the first test fit installation. The transmission mount modification done to install will be shown in the suspension section. The engine mounted perfectly to the original mounting location.

Mommy!!! The Wires Exploded!

This is probably the biggest job of this whole conversion. The wiring alone took well over a month to get sorted out. Stripping out all the unnecessary circuits, and getting all the necessary circuits to work. And then wrapping them back up to look clean. What a Nightmare, Mike & I were seeing wire in our dreams for weeks!

She Runs!!!

So far so good, she runs again. A bunch of bugs to work out still but so far she runs! How do you like that custom made steel tube radiator hose? It ended up not being used. The engine is a reverse flow cooling system, and we had it plummed the wrong way at first.

After reading so many posts on TC about guys having cooling problems I was a little concerned. Well, Not any more! With a Cadillac 4 row heavy duty radiator, a 190 degree thermostat and a Flex-o-Lite 210 dual fan setup, unless I am sitting in traffic, or the car is just sitting & idling for 1/2 hour or more the water temp doesn't get over 165 degrees.

Actually, I think I would even get better performance and economy if I could get the engine temp up a little bit say, around 185 degrees. The highest I have ever seen it is 180, I was stuck sitting in traffic for quite a while. The K&N Filter breathes real good too. Still looking for a better Bellows tube.
