Ebb of Ryme

by Michael Eckhardt

Uncomfortable in the morning, like I didn't sleep

Or I can't wake up, 'hard to tell which.

Am I idle or have I just stopped?

How long can a heart be stopped?

How much leisure 'till its sloth?

If I require less effort to do the par,

Have I slipped, and how far?

A word with rhyme

And keeping time

Or an off-beat prose

Unapologetically dry.

(and clumsy)

No, if I don't feel it,

I'll just live it:

Until I don't have to:

Until, I really do!

You can not stop a heart for long.

Nor sing a spoken-word song.

I will sing! My friends, I will sing!

I will sing until the dawn!
