It's true. Buddy is a rescue dog. Someone abandoned him on the street, left to an unknown fate. When he was found, he was very badly matted (the photo above was taken after he had been somewhat cleaned up; fortunately for Buddy his coat is not very prone to matting or things could have been considerably worse), underweight and had a bad ear infection. Believe it or not, Buddy is lucky. He's past his hard times and now is in a loving (nay, devoted!) home.
However, many cockers are NOT so lucky. Cocker rescues are literally overflowing with homeless dogs. These dogs are mostly the product of puppy mills, and disreputable (or "backyard") breeders. A few are dogs who have lost their owners through bad luck (such as death or illness of an owner), some are pulled out of kill shelters where they have been abandoned or brought when found stray. ALL are loving, beautiful dogs deserving of the best homes.
If you are looking for a cocker, please consider adopting a rescue dog! There are so many dogs out there in need of a home . . . can you open your heart to one?
Here are some links to Cocker Spaniel Rescue sites. If you adopt a dog by going through the links on my page, please let me know about it!! I'd love to hear, and maybe even post a picture of your new family member here on my site :>.
