The Hmong Students Association of California State University, Stanislaus will be hosting their 5th annual Hmong Speech Research
Competition. This event will be held in the Main Dinning Hall of CSU
Stanislaus from 9am to 5 pm on March 16, 2002. However, there have been
some revisions made to the rules and regulations to accommodate those who
showed interested but were unable to make the deadline. Please read over
the guidelines carefully. One thing that I want to make aware to everyone
is that now there is a $5.00 deposit to reserve your spot on that day.
Those who had already applied will not be subjected to this deposit fee.
The new deadline will be February 23, 2002, by midnight for submission of
your.

Rules and Regulations
1. All interested applicants should send an abstract via email or postal.
Abstracts must be no longer than 1 page in length and must be on an issue
concerning the Hmong community. Abstract must be referenced and citied.
Abstract may be of a topic on our list but not limited to it. However, if
you do not wish to talk about the topics you must inform us in order for us
to approve your topic 1 week before the day of presentation.
2. Contestants are opened to choose their format of presentation. However,
no power point presentation may be used. Projector, visual aids such as
posters, graphs, charts, brochures, copies, etc may be used.
3. Deadline for turning in applications is February 23, 2002 midnight with a
$5.00 deposit. No exceptions. This is the final deadline for all those
interested.
4. On presentation day, which is March 16, 2002, each contestant is required
to show up 15 minutes before 9 am to check in. Please bring a form of
identification preferably valid student ID or driver’s license.
5. Be ready and prompt for your turn to present. Be prepared in case there
are failures in the equipment, power shortages. Have an alternative
presentation in case of such situations.
6. Scoring is done by five judges, whom are not advisor of the Hmong
Students Association nor are they affiliated with any contestant. If that
should be the case, it is pure coincidental. All judges are prescreened and
approved by the chair and officers of the Hmong Students Association.
7. Two committee members along with the chair and co-chair will tally the
scores at the day of the presentations.
8. If there are discrepancies, contestants should inform the chair or co-
chair of the incident before the awards ceremony.
9. Scholarship winners are confidential to chair, co-chair, and the two
committee members.
10. No late contestants will be allowed to participate if they miss their
schedule time to present their speech and deposit fee will not be returned.
