Middletown, located at the south entrance to Lake County in Northern California, is home to Dry Creek 4-H Club.
4-H is an educational program of the University of California Cooperative Extension. This program helps prepare today's youth for tomorrow through learn-by-doing educational experiences. Youth can learn leadership and become an active part of their community.
The 4-H program is implemented by adult volunteers approved by the Lake County 4-H Council. These adults go through a certification process to qualify as leaders. Most of these are parents of members. Parents do not have to become leaders, but there are many other opportunities for them to help.
By being involved in 4-H, youth can gain knowledge in a wide variety of projects which can range from the traditional animal projects to Arts and Crafts, Rocketry, Cooking, Sewing, Marine Science, Gardening, Photography, Computers, Leadership, Citizenship, and many more. Most projects run throughout the school year, some are short-term projects. Members have different opportunities to exhibit their projects, many of them working towards the local county fair. Members can take as few or as many projects as they wish. You can be as involved or little involved as you wish. 4-H is what you want it to be.
In Lake County, the 4-H Program is open to youth currently enrolled in grades K-12. The current enrollment fee is $11.00 for the members, and the leader fee is $3.50. Some projects require additional funds to get started.
