When you surf the internet, most likely you are using a modem, a LAN connection at work, or a cable modem. There is a new technology proliferating now - DSL. It allows one to surf the internet at high speeds without a whole lot of fancy equipment or hasle. It doesnt use a dedicated line - it uses the phone line, yet you can use your telephone while surfing at the same time.
