Hesperia Christian beat Lucerne Valley in their first game of 2003 by a score of 61-33. The Patriots were led by junior Josh Hamilton who had a career high 27 points. Soph sensation Loren Barton had his first career double double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. His 18 points is also a career high for Barton. Lucerne Valley stayed with HCS in the first half coming back to close the gap to 24-20 at the half. In the second half the Patriots really took control of the game winning the third quarter by a 20-5 score. They won the fourth quarter 17-8. But the scrappy Mustangs did make one last effort to close the gap and got to within 12 but no closer. The only downside to this game was that HCS again failed to get rid of a team early and hard allowing an opponent to have the ability to mount a final charge. HCS is now 7-5. Lucerne Valley is a Division IVA school with a 1-7 record.
