Game Review
Hesperia Christian was victorious in Lancaster over Antelope Valley Christian 93-63 in an Agape League opener for both teams. The Patriots opened up with an early lead and then the Eagles fought back to a 21-20 HCS first quarter. In the second quarter, the Patriots defense began to wear down Antelope Valley Christian as HCS took a 46-34 halftime lead. Aja Ajanwachuku could not be stopped by the Eagles and he lead all scorers with 28 points. Aja also had a double double by getting 10 steals of HCS' total thefts of 29. Aja was also perfect from the charity line with 6 for 6. Team leading scorer Josh Hamilton also had a good night with 22 points. The intensity of the Patriot defense and speed of their fast break just wore down a Antelope Valley Christian team who does not have a deep bench this year. However, HCS could not stop the Eagle stars from getting some points. Jeremiah Nurse had 19 points, Eun had 20 and Ronnie Thompson had 16. The third quarter effort by HCS basically sealed the Eagle's fate as HCS took the third quarter 25 to 11. Of particular note tonight was the performance from two of HCS' role players. Josh Martinson and Aaron Garcia both had season high scores of 8 and 10 respectively.Garcia also had 8 rebounds to go with his 10 points. HCS star Jesse McDonald had 14 points but was out for much of the game with foul trouble and he fouled out for the first time this season. HCS now has a winning streak of four games and is 10-5 (1-0). Antelope Valley Christian is now 4-8 (0-1). HCS meets arch rival Apple Valley Christian in an early season meeting which could decide the league championship this Friday at HCS..
