Game Review
Apple Valley Christian again this game beat their arch rivals Hesperia Christian 70-60 to sweep their cross-town series 3-0. With this win Apple Valley Christian pretty well guaranteed their championship of the Agape League for a second straight year. The Warriors again jumped out to a big first quarter lead and then held on in the fourth quarter to win the game. Kevin Dillon led the Warriors with 30 points and a double double. Guard Marcus Miller had 14 points. HCS wing Jesse McDonald had 16 points and guard Aja Ajanwachuku had 17 points. HCS had only 4 assists and four steals for the entire game lows in both categories for the Patriots. The Patriots came out slow as they have historically against Apple Valley Christian losing the first quarter 22-10 (which is about the overall margin of difference in the game). That score would have been worse but for the efforts of Loren Barton who had 4 points and 3 critical rebounds in that quarter. Josh Hamilton and Trevor Wagstaffe played below their normal performances. McDonald's threes just would not go in as he was 1/6 from the three point stripe. The Patriots just could not seem to get open for clean shots and their low number of assists showed that. In the fourth quarter when the Patriots made their historical run at the Warriors, their offense seemed to pick up in desperation but their final five minute defense was just not there. Apple Valley Christian was able to delay better than they have in past games. The Patriots could not seem to steal the ball or prevent Kevin Dillon from getting the inbound pass. When Ryan Manahl or Tim Langel, historically poor free throw shooters had the ball, HCS did not seem to be able to foul them to put them on the charity line. All night defensively, HCS had no answer for Kevin Dillon. Nor could they seem to stop Manahl's drives to the hoop where he got all eight of his points. HCS is now 5-2 in conference and 14-7 overall.
Game Preview
Hesperia Christian will face the first place Warriors of Apple Valley Christian this Tuesday night in Apple Valley. HCS is now 5-1 and alone in second place in the Agape League. HCS will be led by Aja Ajanwachuku with his 19 PPG and Josh Hamilton with his 18 PPG. This game will also be a good opportunity for Loren Barton to continue to develop his dominance underneath the basket against a good big man in Justin Nunes. Jesse McDonald the Patriots leader continues to lead the team by example with his topping most team stats. Tonight Jesse will have to stop Star Kevin Dillon from having another 25 point game. Trevor Wagstaffe must again defend Marcus Miller and prevent him from having a 24 point game which Miller is fully capable of having. CIF ranks the Patriots #10 in the fourth Div VAA poll and the Warriors at #2.
