Game Review
Hcs easily defeated Bethel Christian at Lancaster 94-47. Senior Jesse McDonald led all scoring with 18 points. The Eagles Mark Green had 12 points in the losing cause. Senior Aja Ajanwachuku and junior Josh hamilton had typically good games scoring 14 and 15 points respectively. The real highlight of this game was the great performance of Josh Martinson, Bryant baum and Danny Marriott who all had career highs with 11, 7 and 5 points. It demonstrated to future opponents that HCS is far more than five deep! Steve Pappas also put in 8 points for the Patriots. The win has clinched at least a tie for second place in the Agape League. Next opponent is Joshua Springs on Tuesday February 11 at Hesperia.
Game Preview
Hesperia Christian will face the last place Eagles of Bethel Christian this Friday night in Lancaster. HCS is now 15-7, 5-2 and alone in second place in the Agape League coming off their second loss in 2003 against a powerful Apple Valley Christian 70-60. The next three games will be an opportunity for Coaches Simpson and Dobyns to work out what remaining bugs they need to get worked out prior to playoffs beginning on February 18. The offense has to work harder to get guys open for their money shots. That was a failure last Tuesday night. Offensive rebounding also has to uimprove to avoid a one shot and out style of play. The three point shooters have got to keep practicing as that has gone way down for all of the three point shooters. Defensively, they have got to move faster in moving out on the open man. Kevin Dillon of AVC was open most of the night and was getting very clean open shots. The team has to work on preventing back door plays under their defensive concept. In playoffs teams can back door far better than teams in the Agape minus Apple Valley Christian. Free throw shooting in the fourth quarter when it counts has got to improve. To win in playoffs, a team has got to shoot at least 80% in the fourth quarter to survive. CIF ranks the Patriots #10 in the fourth Div VAA poll.
