In the championship game of the HCS Holiday Tournament, Apple Valley Christian showed why they are the #2 ranked team in Division VAA as they took charge early and completely dominated the Patriots of HCS 76-54. The Patriots came out cold and never recovered from their worst first quarter of the year. AVC led 27-11 at the end of the first quarter. HCS did not have answers for stopping senior guard Marcus Miller who finished with 18 points, senior All -CIF guard Kevin Dillon, 13 points and Senior All-tourney pick Tim Langel, 13 points. HCS also failed to foul out the foul prone Ryan Manahl, Justin Nunes and Christian Van Laack. Offensively, HCS' stars who have been averaging 49 points a game finished with only 30 points. The team shot a miserable 7% from the three point line. Although they shot 70% from the charity line, they only went to the line 10 times the entire game. HCS lacked the intensity and motion they had shown in the past two games against Silver Valley and Bloomington Christian. And although they started to settle down in the last three quarters, the damage of the first quarter was already done. The only bright spot in this game was the play of Bryan Glass who ended up with 14 points and played well defensively. The team now must concentrate on fixing the errors of this game and recover with a solid victory against Vasquez.
