Hesperia Christian beat Kings Christian in the opening consolation round of the VCA Holiday Tourney 84-63. The Patriots had their best first quarter and best first half of the year jumping out to a 61-32 lead over the Crusaders. The HCS press completely overwhelmed King's Christian. The Patriots were led by Josh Hamilton with 23 points and Aja Ajanwachuku with 20 points. Bryan Glass and Trevor Wagstaffe returned to performances typical of last season with both getting 9 points a piece. Although Jesse McDonald did not have a good scoring game, he delivered a great performance otherwise getting 6 rebounds and 6 assists along with two steals and one blocked shot. Aaron Garcia and Danny Marriott both had season highs in points tonight. Josh Martinson led the team in rebounds with seven. The only downside to this game was that HCS allowed King's Christian's Justin lott to get 33 points and Michael Belsen 22 points. HCS will have to improve their defense sufficiently to prevent other team's stars from getting so many scoring opportunities. HCS is now 6-4. Kings Christian of Lemoore is a Division VA school with a 7-3 record.
