I love Steve Vai, I think that is pretty clear for everybody at this
point. Well, I like his work with 7 strings and I can't play some of
it with my Rg505. That sucks. So, the song "Mysterious Murder Of Christian
Tiera's Lover's Aunt's Brother's Cat" from Fire Garden is played with
a 7 string Universe, and this is my arrangament to 6 strings. You'll need
the following equipment:

A Guitar
An Amplifier.
An effect thing that has the option of lowering the pitch. Like a multi effect
box or the Digitech XP100 Whammy/Wah. I used the latter. Set it so that the E
string sounds like a low B.
A whammy pedal ( optional )
A wah wah ( optional )

So, you ran out and got yourself a XP100, yes? Good. Ok, let's move on.
The song starts with cool low end riffing. I suggest you roll the gain
back a bit so the sound won't get too mushy. The actual FG tab book had
some very clear tabbing mistakes, and I think I got it pretty right. The
part where the arpeggiated chord riffs are requires wide finger stretches.
Warm up before you start playing that. I tabbed the fast tapping thing in
small pieces, each one is the pattern used on the position. This is a very
good transcription of the tapping thing, you'll get it right with the first
try! Remember to push the whammy pedal down, listen to the record for the
accents. Now get to work dudes & dudettes!!
P.S XP100 Owners: The parts where Steve uses the wah, like the e string
17th fret bend and the fast picking things are easier to produce by
pushing the bypass switch down and playing them 5 frets below.
AND you can play this with a standard tuning too. Same fingerings. It doesn't
sound so cool though.. whaddayamean shut up? Ok ok here's the tab whiner.
