Jury Duty

Serving on a jury

Is my civic duty

Or so the government says.

They give you spiels of gratefulness

As you sit and stare blankly.

You are told they appreciate you

And are very badly needed.

But sitting here twiddling thumbs

For many hours on end

Is not efficient use of time.

Time that could be spent

Much more productively.

I am sure many people

Are certainly needed

To keep our country free.

And many minds

Are an asset

When judgments are made.

But at the moment

I do not feel appreciated.

And definitely not needed

As many people and I

Find several different ways

To occupy our minds.

While waiting for someone

To just please call a name!
