As planned, I bought this CD on Holloween (a date I've been looking forward to since Ozzfest in August)and I was not disapointed by Godsmack's sophmore project. I was a little worried that their sound might change like Creed did for their second album, but they stayed true to their past. It's almost as if this CD was disk 2 in a set with the original; it's that good. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give Godsmack a 10. It's one of the best albums of all time. I would give Awake an 8.5. The only reason It lost points is because it is only 45 minutes long, but there are cool video interviews for your computer which make up for the brief disk. Make no mistake though, those are some excellent 45 minutes. I can see at least 4 singles comming off of this disk: Awake, Sick of Life, Goin' Down, and Spiral
Something most people don't know about Godsmack is that their first album ever was called "All Wound Up" which they recorded in Boston Mass. in '97. (If you own a copy of this CD, you live in Boston, and are very cool for knowing a great band before anyone else. Some big shot producer came along, signed the boys form Boston and gave them a record deal. They droped one song from the list, recorded two new ones and sold it as the "Godsmack" album you all know and love. (Guess the two they recorded, and highlight this line to find out. Whatever & Someone in London. The song they cut, for whatever reason is Goin' Down (Track 5 on "Awake") The track Bad Magick originally appeared on a comic store's sampler disk in '98. Vampires is an instrumental that was never previously recorded, despite being around for a while. The first track I heard performed live earlier this year and it's pretty cool. Awake is the jammin' new single you've heard on your radio. I also heard this song live and I have been looking for it on Napster since. I finally got it and now I got it on the CD.
