Kaylub Hyde,
originally born in
Brandon Manitoba
June 24th (Oh ya, Cancer),
1982 (Year of the dog, the
combination is unthinkable loyality) was born into this world with the sole purpose to create. At age 5(It was a big year) his family moved to Regina Saskatchewan and would come to live in 2 different houses. Kaylub's childhood was quite often spent with his mother, his parents were seperated off and on from his birth and eventually divorced each other when he was about 9 years of age.

When Kaylub moved to Regina he met a life long friend Brad Leighton. Brad and Kaylub have been friends since they were in kindergarten and haven't kept a secret from each other since then. In the darkest and loneliest moments of Kaylub's life Brad has always been there and accepted him for who he is(I could never forget you Brad). It was in Regina Saskatchewan that Kaylub decided he wanted to become a musician. At the beginning of his grade 8 year he received an old "Taunhauser" accoustic beast(which would later become the master piece guitar created by Tristan & Kaylub). He played on that thing night and day to learn the latest tunes. That christmas he also received an electric "Vantage" guitar and began playing in a band called "Fried At The Wheel" with Robert Talbot and any bassist they could find (hee hee). His first spurt of musical writings were inspired by issues such as The end of the world, Divorce, Anxiety and learning to love. A girl by the name of Carrie Gurnsey is important to point out at this moment, Kaylub spent many hours with her during this time and she helped inspire many pieces of literature.

Then, in the summer of 1996 Kaylub Hyde and his father moved to Peachland, BC. Kaylub began writing short stories/poetry more often than he did write music. He slowly grew into the local music scene and would help organize a band who would eventually become "HeadspacE" with Rory Burnett, Josh Deglow, Mitch Harding & Matt Carr. The band went through other names such as "Big Meat Papa", "No Idea", "Karma", "Snuff", "The Guild"... and many others. It was during this time that Kaylub Hyde began brushing up on his guitar skills and continued to write his short stories/poetry. He wrote about different topics at this point in his life, he wrote about evolution of the spirit, finding your inner treasures and reaching the unknown. 2 people must be listed, as they were mandatory to Kaylub's inspiration at this point. Jo Matherly(Who never ever refused a piece of writing) and Jen Lukaniuk(Who always, always listened when I was speaking.)

While still in HeadspacE Kaylub began writing some of his own songs once again and began recording his first 8 song EP. The songs were about individualism, Pain, finding inner strength and learning to live with your problems. The EP was entitled "Mother Knows Best" and the songs were Alone, Same Shame, No Goals, It Just Hits Me, Heaven Knows, Under The Rocks, Blossom & Decay, No Place Left To Go. He also met Haplo around this period, but would not begin to play music with him until later. The only person to mention at this point is Kaylub himself, he stood stand and long and fought many obstacles to get where he wanted to be. He got there.

During the first day of 1998 Kaylub Hyde was visiting friends in Regina Saskatchewan and met a girl by the name of Amber Humeny. He had no idea what kind of an impact she would have on his life when he met her, but he knew he wanted to find out what it would be. The two connected over a few words and a short night before exchanging phone #'s and what have you. When Kaylub returned to BC he began work on his first full length album and began sending Amber his new songs/writing. She was a very important figure in his life and many of his musical pieces would not have been completed without her input (Thank you Amber, I'll never forget). Kaylub would eventually finish off the album entitled "Road To No Where" that had songs about growing up, the tragedy called love and confusion. While recording the album Kaylub began encouraging Haplo to begin writing some songs with him and try singing them. After some writing Kaylub & Haplo eventually wrote 3 songs together that ended up on the "Road To No Where" album entitled "Rough", "Wicketts & Lampshades" and "Sugar". The other songs on the album were Mirrors, No Goals(from "Mother Knows Best"), Our Stars, In My Arms, Nutshell(recorded with "Fried At The Wheel" in Regina Sask), No Place Left To Go(from "Mother Knows Best"), Sunshine Sometimes, The Cut That Never Heals, Shadows In The Parking Lot, and The Journey Back.

Shortly after the album was completed Kaylub fell for Amber much harder than he ever thought he could have and moved to Regina saskatchewan to be with her and pick up on old friendships in the summer of 1998. The next year of his life would be a test of inner strength. He began battling with his inner self to learn who he truely was and felt lost in a wasteland. Amber suddenly began battling with her innerself as well, trying to decide what kind of person she wanted to be. It was during this time that Amber & Kaylub's connection was severed and disconnected. While in Regina Kaylub began playing coffee shop accoustic gigs with a girl named "Michelle Boudreau". The two enjoyed each other's music and were always glad to play on stage with the other. The 2 became good friends and Kaylub would eventually record Michelle Boudreau's EP for her. He also continued recording a few of his singles at this time like Feed Your Fire, Make It All Go Away, the original Honest Insomnia, and the original Utopia By The Pond(entitled blood Path) at the time. He suddenly scraped all ideas of another accoustic album and immediatly began work on a Techno album entitled "U-Turn". The music was great to him at the time, no lyrics, he was sick of talking. He wanted to make people feel the emotions through fluid movement and constant rhythm. The album was eventually completed with these songs Internal Prayer, Hole In My Rear View, Buggin, Reflexive Vision, Y2K, Dancing With The Demons, Distant Voices, Slam Dancing With Mister Brown Stone. I must be sure to thank Amber Humeny, Stephanie Hahn, Sean (? sorry) during this time. They listened, and they responded (even if it was negatively Steph :>). Not to much longer after the album was recorded Kaylub & Amber's relationship was far beyond being finished and Kaylub headed back to BC.

So just before the summer of 1999 Kaylub had returned to BC and was ready to make some damn apocalyptic music. As soon as he returned he got back together with Haplo and the 2 decided they would record under the name "Cafe Insomnia" a name that was full fledgedly stolen from Mike Humeny(HAPPY MIKE?! THERE, NOW YOU GOT CREDIT!). The 2 began re-doing their old songs (Wicketts & Lampshades, Honest Insomnia, Rough) and began writing new tunes to be finished. Shortly after local festivals were asking for local talent to play so Haplo and Kaylub went out scouting and got Coren on bass & Lil' E on drums. The band as a whole then recorded their first album entitled "Nevermore" containing 14 songs. The songs were Secret Saviour, Honest Insomnia, Utopia By The Pond, Make It Home, Beat and Twitches, Wicketts and Lampshades, Another Trip, Rough, Pull, Norak, Conflagration, Lost, Not Inside Of Me, Blinded. While recording the album Kaylub was reintroduced to Jen Lukaniuk under a new light. The two bonded under introspective conversations and mind altering journeys during the creative writing sessions of Nevermore. Shortly there after, the seperation of the relationship caused a gaping wound to appear in the lines of communication. Since, that fateful day, Jen has not been able to effectively translate her feelings into words to Kaylub.
I miss you Jen.

So, with the album recorded Coren, Kaylub and Haplo were left without a live drummer as Lil'E departed from the roster before the end of the albums recording. They all agreed on a short break after the long hard recording sessions and let the album do the talking for a few months. It was during this time that Kaylub met Marianne Haack, a visiting girl from Germany. The mystery of a foreign girl got the better of his curiousity and he became entangled in her charm. The relationship blossomed into a beautiful equally sharing bond and the two learned much from eachother. Countless walks were taken into the Canadian wilderness for hours and even more journeys took place in his heart. But, as her visit in Canada grew closer to an end so did their relationship. 2 months before she would leave the relationships drifted apart... Proving a difficult spiritual barrier for Kaylub to cross. The wound was a difficult one to heal, but they were sure to say goodbye to eachother the day before she left. Only then could the healing begin, you see, being a Cancer Kaylub had to first sift through the physical presence and constant emotional battle. Shortly there after however, Kaylub organized himself and picked up on his life long spiritual journey. You were right Marianne, soon, you were to become just another paragraph in the big story. If you're reading this, I want to say... Now that I'm at an objective perspective... Thanks for being the strong one, you stayed on your course and never made it harder then it needed to be.

During all this emotional upheavel the band was still pushing forward. They picked up drummer Justin Munro for a few months and began working on adding him into the setlist. However, this did not work out very well. The chemistry between Justin and the others worked out well, but the timing was wrong. Justin was going in a different direction than the 3 always present band members. Shortly there after they auditioned Nik Duperon and within the first practice they knew that Nik was going to be the 4th vertex in the rounded circle. Nik quickly grew into the band and proved to be the perfect live drummer that the band needed. He has now become the extra flavour layered into the music, and Cafe Insomnia could not exist without him.

While all this band mixing and matching was going on Kaylub randomly ran into an intriguing girl from australia on the internet. The two have now known eachother for almost 2 years now and she has become the voice that Kaylub can tell anything and everything too. He still has plans to eventually get to australia, see more of the world and explore all there is to Mikhala.

During the summer of Marianne's departure Kaylub was entering a new spiritual revelation and the taste of creative power could be tasted in the air. He rekindled an old friendship with Orion Kemp and Aja Bond, as well as being introduced to new monoliths of virtue (Kevin Scott). A side project was mounted for the summer entitled "Second Sphere" and it began as an organized song writing project. However, this would soon prove futile, for you see everyone involved was currently living for the "now". No song could ever be duplicated again, so they threw numerous jam parties and played right on the spot over and over and over again. One recording, however, did emerse from the whole ordeal... The words pretty much summed up all their existance at that milestone... The song was entitled "I don't know".

So, currently the band has been playing numerous live shows and spreading their word all across the Okanagan. The equipment has been piling up and we keep getting closer and closer to having the wall of giant sound we so desperately desire. More material has been being written up on a regular basis and a much more complex mode of writing has been undergone for the new writing. While songs are being created for a second album, we are also rejecting many more songs than we ever had before. We are much more concentrated on the live aspects of widening our performance radius. We're attempting to reach enough equipment to start touring all of Canada and shopping around a $1,000 professional demo tape before recording a second independent album. Thanks for all the support, we love you guys.

How could have I possibly forgotten possibly one of the most influencing figures in my life. The one, the only, Victor Van Deer Gaag. He was a great legend in the Canadian punk scene. Anyways, he's a friend(we bonded while wandering around an orchard all confused) a teacher(taught me almost everything I know about attitude while I played in 'White Trash') and he's been robbed. This man was my influence and some crazy bastard shot his fuckin' legs off. That kinda shit's not cool, that's what this tour is about, this is for Victor. I know it sounds drastic, but I mean, the guy got me to touch his stumps. He was all like "Come on, touch my stumps, I want you to know what it feels like." Anyways, you're not forgotten Victor. I'll be up within in the month, I'll bring the goat, you get stocked up on supplies ;).

There it is folks, my damn life. It was scarey as hell writing it out, hope it was just as scarey reading it. :)
