Delegate Stories

A good memory that I have from Youth & Government this year is the Meet the Candidates sessions. They are some of the most fun times you will have at any conference. The point of them is to meet the candidates (as it states in the title) for the offices you will vote for. You are allowed to ask a whole lot of silly questions, but they have to be balanced by serious questions. Some of the silliness was manifested in performances of Michael Jackson songs and very funny renditions of NSync and Britney Spears. Let me tell you...it was hilarious!!!

This is going on my second year in Youth and Government and I love it. I like all the people in the Downtown Oakland Delegation...even though we have our drama sometimes it all works out in the end. The conferences are pretty interesting to go to and I learn something new every time. I like Sacramento the best because we were gone from home for 5 days and stayed in our own hotel rooms. We were responsible for buying our own food but that was okay because we got to eat out everyday with friends. The rest of the conferences were fun too; like T&E 1 and 2. Staying at an army base in San Louis Obispio wasn't that cool but it was still a good experience anyways. Makes you realize actually how people in the army live.

As far as the delegation goes....its not always play. We do have to do a lot of work when it comes to writing bills. However even debating, researching, and writing bills can be just as interesting too.

After reading this story and others....I hope you decided to stop by and see what YMCA Youth and Government and the Downtown Oakland Delegation is all about!
