Creative Story

Here's another thing that I thought was really cool and wanted to share with you guys- I'm applying for a writing/musical arts school soon and I have to make a portfolio of my writing, so I wrote a short story. And since I love music and can write about it so easily, I wrote this...

*Please take the time to read it, I think you'll all appreciate it. The character name might sound familiar but that's only because I couldn't think of anything else to use and my mom told me to just use the name Robbie! lol But it's completely made up ;)

Insights To You

Robbie sat down Amongst old Rolling Stone magazines and music-newspaper articles to do some research. He decided that if he was going to get a good grade on this school project, he'd better have enough information to make it look good. The assignment was to create your own magazine in which all the information would give insights to you. Such as influences, hobbies, favorites, and goals in life. He knew that once he got started on the influences section, he'd need information on his favorite musical artists. Music has and always will be, the biggest part in Robbie's life. All of his dreams were inspired by his favorite musicians and their music.

He cut out various pictures of artists like the Goo Goo Dolls, Everclear, Dave Mathews Band, Nirvana, and Creed, and then pasted them onto different pages in his magazine. He also put captions underneath each picutre telling what kind of an effect their music has had on him. For instance, the band Everclear had always been his favorite. Everclear's music had helped Robbie through some of the harder times in his life, like when he was feeling down or lonely. The Goo Goo Dolls on the other hand, had encouraged Robbie to follow his dreams. He felt that both the musical artists had spoken to him through their words and sounds in their music.

For the hobbies section, he painted pictures of his guitar and other things he enjoyed. He figured that since painting was one of his hobbies, he could show his talent in that by painting the things he liked to do; like play his guitar. Next was the favorites section, which was by far the easiest of all. Although the information was simple, Robbie wanted to make the page really creative and make sure this section was far from ordinary! He wrote all the answers on a white sheet of paper, and wrote all the topics on little flaps like windows on a blue sheet of construction paper. He then pasted the construction paper over the answers. The next thing you know you're opening little pop up windows to see what Robbie's favorites are. He was excited because he knew nobody else would have anything like that.

Now for the hard part, the part where you really had to think. The most intellectual and thoughtful part of the assignment. "What are my goals?" Robbie thought. He knew exactly what he wanted to say, but how could he possibly put it into words. "Here goes nothing," Robbie said silently in his mind, and he began to write...

I've always wanted to be a musician, or atleast a song writer. Music is so important to me and I couldn't imagine what I would do without it. I've been so deeply touched my musicians that I only want to be able to give back to other people, what so many artists have given to me. They gave me more than what I could have asked for, and the funnny thing is that they didn't even mean to. To me that's what's so amazing about it. That they can just be trying to get their feelings out and in the meantime they are touching somebody else's life. I've always longed to be able to do that. So, my goal in life, is to make a difference in other lives, the same way musicians have made a difference in mine...
