Def Jam: Vendetta

When a game with a name like Def Jam Vendetta comes out, it usually receives little attention. When I received a demo of this game I quickly popped it in to try it out after hearing it was a good game from several reputable game sites. It starts off well with a very good introduction to the story. It also presents the characters in the game which includes Method Man, Redman, and others. After choosing my character I got into the ring.

The things this game does good in the gameplay department are overshadowed by the bad things. It does present an okay wrestling game copy, with more realistic and fluid motions than most others. What brings down the gameplay is the very slow pace. You would think in a game with such foul mouthed rappers, they would make the game much faster, You would also think there would be more devastating moves than just punching and the occasional grapple. Not only that, the moves you can performed take so long because they feel the need to move in slow motion and take a huge windup when they grapple. After you get used to the slow paced and the limited amount of moves the game can be fun, the mechanics are pretty solid. Despite the slow pace, the game looks like everything is happening fast while you are doing little.

The graphics are on par with most other wrestling games, maybe a little better, with a cartoonish style of presenting the rappers, along with some good old fashioned trash talking, no swearing of course.

The game is an okay game overall, but I just hope they speed up the gameplay for the final release. Fans of Def Jam will probably want this game while fans of wrestling games should only get this if they have overplayed Smackdown! Shut Your Mouth. We will just have to wait and see if the final version is any better.
