The 14 Incher

I've created this page to highlight the features of the 14" prototype according to what we know of it so far. The pixel count is 160 x 160. The dimensions are 252mm x 252mm square, yielding a 14" diagonal image. The display matrix is driven by the HyFED electronics circuitry, but has been modified to address each pixel individually rather than incorporating the HyFED single-beam method of addressing a sub-matrix. The 14" has already been made with crude parts for in-house evaluation. We are now awaiting the announcement of a cleaner version which is to be publicly demonstrated as the world's first full-color indoor flat-panel CNT FED (Carbon NanoTube Field Emission Display). Below is a rough representation of the image one might expect to see on this display.

Dr. Zvi Yaniv displayed on simulation of the 14

The actual size of this image is 25.2cm x 25.2cm, or 14" on the diagonal. (It may be displayed on your computer screen as smaller due to the web browser compensating for the available real-estate on your screen. To see the image actual size, right click on the image and save it to your computer. Then, open it in an image viewer such as Windows Paint. However, some of the picture may run off the screen at actual size.) The box in the upper left-hand corner represents a 16 x 16 pixel sub-array, and the vertical and horizontal tick marks represent 10 such sub-arrays across and down the screen. In actuality, the image we might expect to see could (or will) be much grainier than is displayed here. The reason is that the colors of each "pixel" in this representation are actually made up of many many pixels on your computer screen, giving you a relatively smooth appearing patch of color. However, the actual 14" prototype will have a triad of colors (Red, Green, and Blue) at each of the pixel locations, the intensity combination of which will emit a light approximately that shade and hue. At a fair distance from the display, one would be able to see these colors "blend" more effectively, presenting you with a more natural image of Dr. Yaniv.
