-it came upon a fishmas clear-
it came upon a fishmas clear, that glorious song of old,
from fishes swimming neath the waves, to touch their harps of gold:
peace on the earth, to all good will
from oceans news we bring
the world in solemn stillness lay to hear the fishes sing.
still out from cloven seas they sing, how peacefully they bob;
and still their fishy music floats oer all the weary globe.
below its sad and rocky plains
their peaceful song doth ring,
and ever neath lands babel sounds the blessed fishes sing.
but with the woes of war and strife the world has suffered long;
above the fishs strain have rolled two thousand years of wrong;
and we who fight the wars hear not
the love song which they bring.
o hush the noise of battle strife, and hear the fishes sing!
for, lo! the days are hastening on by ocean bards foretold,
when with the ever circling years comes round the age of gold:
when peace shall over all the earth
its watery splendor fling,
and land will finally hear the song which now the fishes sing.
