Diva's Minestrone Soup

1 pound of dried Northern beans
4 qts. of water
1 teaaspoon of salt
1 ham bone
1/2 cup of green beans, cut in small pieces
1 onion, chopped
1 large potato cut into small cubes
1 zucchini, cut into small pieces
2 carrots, cut into small pieces
3 stalks of celery, chopped
1 cup of tomato sauce
(may substitute diced tomatoes)

In a large pot, place the dried beans, water, salt and ham bone.
Bring to boil.
Cover and simmer on low heat for 2-3 hours beans are tender.
Drain: Save stock,
Force 1/2 of the beans through a sieve or whirl in a blender.
Combine the beans, bean puree, stock and add salt and pepper.
Add chopped tomatoes and all other vegetables.
Bring to a boil, Cover and simmer on low heat for 1-1 1/2 hours.
Serve hot with grated cheese.
