Chapter 6 “Oops sorry. I guess you don’t know who I am. First off, I’m sorry for sounding like a prick a few seconds ago. I am a member of the Backstreet Boys. We’re a pop group. There are five of us. Actually not to be arrogant, but we’re one of the best selling groups right now, worldwide. That covers the “guys” part of your question. Second off, “we” means Brian and me. Brian is a member of the group too. We actually are cousins, and we get along pretty well. The other three guys have no idea that we’re warlocks and our management has ideas that there’s something wrong with us, but nothing major. Like our stipulation in our contracts that ever 7th of the month we get off. Now, you know that’s for Meetings, but they think we’re just quirky as far as I can tell. Anything else you’d like to know?” he said half-smirking. “Wow. That’s all I have to say,” I said. I’d heard some Backstreet Boys songs on the radio and I had to say, they were pretty good. Actually, Whitney covered one in her show. “You guys sing “Everybody” don’t you?” “Yeah. You can actually hear Brian in the beginning, but I don’t have any solos.” “No way! That’s him? I’ve been raving about his voice for weeks then. You see, I listen to the radio a whole lot, and I really like “Everybody” and my favorite voice is a toss up between Brian’s the one at the very beginning of the song. You know, the one that says, “Oh my God we’re back again,” I said excitedly. “And just a question. Where did you go to be ‘back’” I asked with a laugh. He grinned, and chuckled showing off a perfect row of white teeth. “You like AJ’s voice? Not surprising, everyone does. And we were ‘back,’” he said making the quotations with his fingers, “in Europe. It was our second album. Anyway, if you and Whitney want to come to the concert, the opening act starts at 7:30, but we don’t show up until 8:30 or so.” “Well, although that’s a little early for me, I’ll go to bed when I get home, and I’ll be up in time to make part of the opening act. Whitney will be there too.” “Great. I’ll have you meet the rest of the guys, but remember they don’t know about me or Brian being warlocks, and I’m pretty sure you and Whitney want to have it on the down low about your umm… gifts. I’ll get you guys the tickets tomorrow afternoon. I’ll put them in your mailbox. By the way, where\ do you live?” “Well we live in a not so nice neighborhood that I’m pretty sure you don’t want to visit. How about we meet somebody outside the venue who gives us the tickets. I’ll draw sketches of us real quick so whomever you send can recognize us. We’ll be at the south entrance,” I said grabbing a piece of paper out of my purse, and a sketch pencil. I made a rough drawing of Whitney and myself and handed it over to Kevin. He looked at it briefly, folded it, and put it in his pocket. “You know, I do need to get going. It’s already about 4:30 and the guys back at the hotel will wonder whatever happened to us,” he said standing up and reaching a strong hand down to help me up. I took it gladly, and once I had regained my balance I looked for Whitney, thinking about it, so if she wanted to pick up my thoughts, and let me know where she was she could do so. Over here, to your left. I’d found her. I looked in the direction indicated and saw her sitting at a table with Brian. I looked at Kevin and pointed in the aforementioned direction. We walked over and Kevin told Brian it was time to go. “Come on B, we need to get going. D, Bone and Nick will be worried if they’re still up,” Kevin said tugging at the smaller man’s shirtsleeve. “Alright,” he sighed, “Whitney, I will see you tomorrow, correct?” “Yes you will, and I’ll be screaming for ya,” she said softly looking him straight in the face and smiling. “Till tomorrow,” he bent down and kissed her hand. With that he and Kevin walked off, leaving Whitney and I to our own thoughts.
