Chapter 37 When we arrived at the hotel, the three of us were ushered through a back entrance, because the fans had found out about the party somehow. I jumped in the elevator, ready and rearing to go for a party. “Come on guys!” I called to Whitney and Kevin. “We’re coming, just hang on,” Whitney chuckled as she walked over to the door. When we stepped off the elevator, we were assaulted with the sights and sounds of a raging party that was showing no signs of letting up. I ran into the middle of the people dancing and started to throw myself into the song. “Hey there,” a voice breathed into my ear. “Hello,” I said turning around to see who was talking to me. It was a good-looking man that I’d never seen before. “Care to dance?” he asked, extending an arm. “Sure,” I said as he led me to an open space in the middle of the room. “What’s your name,” he asked me after about one song. “Bobbi. What’s yours?” “Jason. I work backstage.” “I’m sure that’s a cool job. I think I’m coming on tour with the guys next tour,” I said trying to make interesting conversation. “Great, maybe I’ll see you there.” A slow song came on, and I asked to be excused. It’s not that I didn’t want to dance with him; it was the fact that with my teeth that close to his neck, I didn’t know if I could help myself. And judging from my track record I didn’t want to chance it. The man behind the DJ table took the mike, “It’s now five minutes to midnight. So everyone grab that special someone and dance your ass off. Jason was walking over to me but Howie cut in front of him and reached for my hand. I gave an apologetic look to Jason and walked off with Howie to dance. “Sorry about grabbing you, but I just wanted to talk to you about something,” Howie said after we’d settled into a spot on the floor. “Not a problem,” I said wondering what Howie had to say. “I’m not gonna beat around the bush here, although, I’m letting you know that what I have to say is going to shock you, so please don’t walk away, say anything loud or draw any attention to yourself or me.” “OK,” I said shakily, this was starting to scare me. “I know that you’re a vampire” “Bu--” I started. “No interruptions,” he said placing a finger across my lips. “I also know that AJ is a vampire, Whitney is a witch, and Brian and Kevin are warlocks. Though none of you told me this, I know. I am aware that you will be coming on tour with us, because of a mishap with AJ.” “But how?” I asked. “Because I too am immortal. You see, I’m a ‘Keeper’,” he said softly, “do you know what that is?” “Yeah,” I said trying to digest the information I’d just been given. This was going to complicate things. Keepers are hard to explain. I guess it goes like this. A Keeper is a person, supernatural of course, who remembers secrets, and advances of things in the past. Essentially they are a “Keeper of Secrets.” They are immortal, but can change shape into anything they want to discover these secrets. They remember anything they’re told, and can read minds. “Does this surprise you?” he asked softly after I’d been quiet for some time. “Yeah, a little.” “I’m not allowed to tell you why I’m here in the persona I am. I know you’re wondering about that. I promise I won’t read your mind too much,” he said trying to comfort my racing thoughts. “Maybe you could help with other things though,” I said, “like how I can avoid AJ.” “I’m not sure I can interfere in things of this nature. You know as well as I that a spell of this magnitude is something that shouldn’t be tinkered with. By the way, do you honestly think the excuse of Whitney not wanting to leave the country without you would work so you could get to Europe with us?” he asked playfully. “Well, I can’t lie and tell you no. It is completely plausible…” I trailed off with a small smile, “Nick believed it.” “Thirty seconds till midnight!” the DJ yelled. We turned our attention to the giant screen showing the Dick Clark New Year’s special. “Ten… Nine… Eight… Seven… Six… Five… Four… Three… Two… One! Happy New Year,” everyone yelled. Howie pulled me in, and gave me a chaste peck on the lips, “Remember, no telling I’m a Keeper alright?” “Sure.” With that Howie walked away to give New Years’ kisses to others. Jason came over and planted a big sloppy kiss on my cheek and smiling like an idiot, “Happy New Year!” Things just might be looking up, I thought, smiling back at Jason’s adorable face.
