Cookies: The Story of How it All Began
This is a brief history of how I, Laura, became a BSB fan. I listened
to my parents’ oldies for most of my life until I finally started to listen to pop.
This explains how I missed the beginning of their popularity. Even
after I started to listen to current music, I had no idea who they were. I don’t
know why, I just didn’t. I remember distinctly hearing Everybody for the
first (and only, as far as I remember) time and thinking “How are they back?
They never went away! I never even heard of them before. Who are these
people?!” I had heard a few of their other songs, not knowing they were by
the same group. I found this out on a long drive with a friend of mine. I
was bored and borrowed her cd player, and listened to what she had in it. At
this point, I made a vague connection. “I like some of these songs….who is
this….Backstreet Boys? Not bad.”
That was pretty much it until the year Bobbi, the lovely co-author of
this site, and I had virtually identical schedules in school. This meant I got
to know her better, and was introduced to “her boys” as they were
sometimes referred to. I was pathetically easy to assimilate. Bobbi used to
write in my assignment book when bored, and would write down upcoming
appearances. One day she jokingly said if I watched, she’d give me a
cookie. Well, I did watch. And the next day at lunch, she bought me a
cookie. This continued for a little while until it was to late. All it took was
listening to the CDs, a couple showings of her videos, and some cookies, and
I was hooked. Once the cookies trailed off, I was left with no cookies
and an addiction. Damn her. Only not really. I’m enjoying myself. Perhaps
a little too much……
So that’s it. I’ve been called a “traitor” (jokingly) by one of our
friends who is a 98 degrees fan, but aside from her, most don’t know I’m a
fan, and if they do, they don’t know the full extent of it. Oh, and for your
information, the girl who’s CD I listened to claims that her brother stole the
CD. And she just happens to know the words and some of the dance moves.
She hates BSB .Really. Did I mention that her Mom stole her copy of
Millennium? Yea, sure she did. Don’t worry. We will get that girl next.
* evil laughter * I mean …um…I’m ok, really I am.
And by the way Bobbi, you owe me several bushels of cookies.
