MAX Hudghton will be remembered for his very public display of emotion in 2000 after the one point loss to the Bulldogs in Round nine. But he also was the linchpin in the St Kilda defence - often on his own. He didn't falter at the challenge and was accordingly presented with the Most Improved Award. Assistant coach Kevin Morris echoed these sentiments: "Due to suspension and injury this year, he was required to play on the most dangerous opposition forward at either centre-half back or fullback." Morris said Max set himself weekly goals and worked hard on his game, sending time with the coaches and analysing videotape to understand his opponents' strengths and weaknesses. Apart from a great season not missing a game in defence (for the second year in a row), Max also trilled Saints fans kicking three goals in 2000, bringing his total goalkicking tally to four. "To all the fans out there, you have been fantastic, as has been your support this year. Here's to the Saints in 2001," Max told the audience. |
