THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY

A London gangster's empire mysteriously begins to crumble while he attempts to set up his first international - and legitimate- enterprise.

RELEASED IN THE USA April 2, 1982
DIRECTED BY John Mackenzie
SCREENPLAY BY Barrie Keefe
ALSO STARRING Helen Mirren, Eddie Constantine, Derek Marshall, Bryan Marshall

VIDEO/DVD A Criterion Collection DVD of THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY [Region 1] is available, as is a Region 2 Special Edition DVD that includes an interview with Bob, and commentary from director Mackenzie.

Bob's breakthrough film role - with the character of Harold, he combines the intensity, menace, humor, and surprising tenderness that helped define his dominant screen persona.  The film as a whole is a crackling and suspenseful (if somewhat hard to follow) crime drama that still feels up to date, and no imitation could ever duplicate the power of the film's final scenes, or Bob's towering performance.
