I was watching the Daria movie on MTV last week and I got bored, so I flipped to a different channel. When I flipped back, TRL was on. I've been getting really sick of it lately, so I wasn't extremely pleased to see that it was on. As much as I gush about how cute Carson is, he's been getting really annoying lately with his personal opinions on everybody and their mother. He has always made snide remarks regarding the Backstreet Boys, and it just finally got to me. I've really been getting sick of MTV in general, because I finally noticed how they are constantly trying to shove new artists down our throats (e.g. Mandy Moore.)
So back to my channel flipping. I was just about to find something better than TRL (which wouldn't be difficult), when Carson said something about voting for a classic TRL video we would want to see that day. It was between Backstreet Boys "I Want it That Way," and some Nsuck song, it might have been their first single, I'm not sure. So of course, I was fixated on the TV until the end of the show, waiting to see if my boys would win. Being a west coast viewer, TRL isn't live for me, so there wasn't a damn thing I could do except sit there and hope that a few loyal BSB fans would keep voting. Meanwhile, the entire show, Carson kept bringing up the fact that he wanted Nsync to win, and how he knows everyone in the MTV studios feels the same way. He talks about how they're really nice guys and he hasn't seen that video in awhile. Bah.
Everytime the show went to commercial it would show one of the rooms behind the scenes of TRL. It would show this girl tallying the votes. To me, it looked like BSB was ahead by alot, but everytime Carson would check the totals, they would say that Nsync was winning. As if that wasn't pissing me off enough, they kept getting the opinions of dumbass teenys that are obsessed with Nsuck. "I want, like, Nsync to win because ::scream:: they're like such hotties ::scream:: and I just want them to win."
At one point Carson said he wanted to get the opinion of another young lady on the matter. The camera cuts to this girl around my age, so I figure she'll be a Backstreet fan, and probably have something intelligent to say. I was wrong. "I want NSYNC to win because they're really cute, and some of THEM are still available, if you know what I mean." Greeeeat. It was one of those moments I was wishing there was such a thing as interactive TV. I wanted to rip her arm off and start hitting her with it. Honey, the "single" members of Nsync are not any more available to you than the married members of the Backstreet Boys. Get a fucking clue.
So in the end, the Backstreet Boys won which made me very happy. Of course they only won by two votes, and I really think they could have done better. What the hell is the matter with you people who voted for Nsuck?? Anyway, I was jumping up and down and screaming "YES! In your face!!!" over and over. It was kind of a teenybopperish moment but it only lasted a minute. I'm hoping it was a big slap in the face for Carson and all the other people who voted for Nsync to see them lose.
I'm also hoping it made those MTV executives realize what a mistake they made by not nominating the Backstreet Boys for any of the Video Music Awards this year. Did I mention that we, The Chicken Girls, are refusing to watch the VMA's this year? We can't believe that the Backstreet Boys did not get nominated for anything They are grammy nominated artists who have had several videos in the last year that consistently stayed in the top 5 on MTV. Not to mention their award-winning, record-breaking, album Millennium. But noooooooooo, they nominate some of the crappiest artists around, and invite them to perform. We decided that it would be best if we didn't watch this year, even though we'll be missing out on some of our other favorites, namely Papa Roach and Limp Bizkit. So we, The Chicken Girls, herby proclaim that we will not be watching the 2000 VMA's and recommend you find something else to do that night as well.
