A heartthrob to teen-age girls everywhere, David Cassidy became a teen idol overnight as Keith Partridge in the hit '70's TV series "The Partridge Family". He launched his singing career as the lead vocal of a fictional family group, bringing him instant fame and success. He is now a mature rock singer/songwriter who has moved eons beyond his earlier bubblegum image.

Concert Reports

February 14: Anaheim, CA

Whew- what a night!

Danny only did anly about 15 minutes & talked about how great David was for helping him out in the 90's & giving him a career.  He came out in a huge white ruffled shirt & royal purple velvet coat, which he claimed he stole from David!  He signed an Up-to-date LP cover (over Tracy's face- said no one would care) & a plastic Partridge Family lunchbox thermos, which he claimed he also once had, but at the time, it was filled with vodka.

After he left the stage, the show started right away with Lon Bronson. David came out in Danny's white ruffled shirt & sang Heartbeat.  He said that Entertainment Tonight was filming, & that shirt would probably be the sceen shown for the next 50 years.  He took it off after the song & had a long-sleeved white ribbed T-shirt underneat & tight black satin pants.  He added How Can I Be Sure & No Bridge (which he introduced as coming from his "new CD" coming out in May - guess he forgot it was already a big hit from Old Trick New Dog!), & also sang Lying To Myself & Aint No Sunshine (He sang that as part of the finale, with Hollywood Nights, but said he should have sang it an hour earlier).  The rest of the song line up was the same as the Rio Concert in November. The Grove is a small venue, but the tables were really packed together. They had great closed-circuit big screens on either side of the stage so we could see David in great close-up. No Cassidy family members were present, but David called out Danny & Gretchen on stage to wish them a Happy Valentines Day.  Gretchen confessed
that the only reason she married Danny was so she could meet David - Danny tried to drag her off the stage fast! David said he'd hoped to have a romantic Val. Day with his family, but he ended up spending it with us! (Today Danny is having a "best of" radio show- he must not have gotten home till late!)
That's about it.  See you later- Cheryl C

I just want to add a few things to Cheryl's great report. For those who don't know exactly what the November/Rio set list was, I want to add that David also sang C.C. Rider/Jenny Jenny, which he first added in London, but it's still fairly new to his setlist in the U.S. Not only did Danny autograph that fan's Partridge Family thermos, but David did too. He usually doesn't sign stuff from on stage because he says it would take too long to sign everything that was brought to him, but I think he made an exception this time because this fan begged and pleaded and explained that Danny had just signed it for her. Fans were throwing the usual assorted bras and panties onto the stage and he picked one bra up and said something like, "This is the kind I like...it's a 32-D. Who's is this? I'd like to meet her." Also, one woman put a Hawaiin lei around his neck and said into his microphone, "I just had to lay you just once." Very funny! I think he was a little naughtier that night because Sue and Beau weren't there. ;-) Here's some photos I took.

My seat was pretty far away, but they came out okay. Fortunately, security was pretty lenient.

I drove down to Anaheim for David's concert.  Originally I was going to take baby David with me to the concert since babies are allowed there.  I've been wanting to get a picture of the two David's together since he is named after him.  I thought this would be a good time since I was in the front row and David usually pays attention to children and the people in the front row.
Two days before the concert I changed my mind.  I still brought him with me but hired a babysitter to watch him.  The lady at the theater said it would be very loud in the front.  I tried ear plugs on him but not sure if I would get them sealed in his ears so I didn't want to risk it.

We went to the theater hoping I'd see David go in for the sound check.  I asked the guard if David had come yet.  He said he didn't know but he really didn't want me there.  I was parked in a different part of the parking lot than the backstage people were who were coming around then.  So I decided to wait at my car so that I wouldn't get chased away.  I had just bought a brand new Canon camera for about $1000 so that I could use it for the concert and I was reading the manual at my car.  That didn't make much sense because how would I see David arrive if my head is buried in the manual!  I glanced up at the right time because there was David standing there by the backstage door!! I was probably a couple hundred feet away but it looked like him.  I pushed David over in that direction and stopped in the next lane over from where he was.  I didn't see him and assumed he went inside.  Then I noticed he was sitting in a white van!  He looked at me.  I smiled and waved.  (It reminded me exactly of what happened when I went to the taping of "Politically Incorrect".  I was sitting in the audience directly behind him.  For some reason he just turned around.  I smiled and waved.  He gave me a confused look and smiled and waved back.)    He did the same thing this time too!  Then the van drove over to my lane and stopped right next to me!  I never even looked to see who was driving.  David rolled down the window and said hi.  I told him my name.  I said I named my baby David after him and that I was wondering if I could get a picture of them together.  He said that was sweet.  He really didn't want to because he said he was in a hurry to go to dinner and he was hungry.  Then he said "Let me at least meet him.  Why don't you take him out of the stroller."  Sounded like a good idea to me!  I unbelted him as fast as I could.  I held him up to him and told him that he has Down syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.  He didn't ask what that was (he probably didn't want one of my long explanations!).  I told him I was going to bring him to the concert but decided against it since they said it would be loud and I was in the front row.  He said "Yes, it's going to be very loud."  I asked if he could hold him and I could get a quick picture. He said "Sure."  I was surprised since he didn't want to before.  The only thing I could think of was maybe he thought I wanted him to get out of the van before and then he realized he didn't need to do that.  I quick grabbed
the camera and took the picture.  I have no idea how it will turn out since I'm not used to the new camera yet.  Also I used very fast film because I had planned on using it for the concert without flash (which they wouldn't let me do after all).  I thanked him several times and shook his hand.  I was so happy my dream of a picture of the two of them came true!!  I went back to
the room to get ready for the concert and the babysitter came.  The theater charges $8 for parking so I decided to be cheap and take the free shuttle the hotel had.  Instead of waiting 10 minutes for it like they said, it was 40 minutes because the driver was late getting back.  People sitting in the front rows had to order dinner in the lounge if they wanted dinner.  The rest of the theater had tables to eat at.  Dinner took a long time because there was only one waitress in the lounge and she said the theater was sold out so a lot of people ordered dinner.  I bought the new black t-shirt that is out.  I ran into a lot of friends.  I was so disappointed that there was no photography allowed.  Security was extremely strict about it (with me anyway!).  Danny was on for about 20 minutes and was hilarious as always.  I wanted to take a picture but didn't because I didn't want to get caught at the beginning.  There was no intermission.  As soon as David started, the security guard put a chair in front of the front row facing the audience and plunked himself right in front of the girl next to me!  After three songs, David had Danny come out again and put his arm around him.  It looked as though they were posing for pictures!  Flashes were going off like crazy.
Everybody could take pictures except me!  As soon as I got my camera out, the guard said "NO!"  I told him I just wanted to take one non-flash picture.  He still wouldn't let me.  I said how come all these people can take all these flash pictures and I can't take one non-flash picture.  He said "I have no control over them, but you're right in front of me."  It was so hard to
resist especially since I bought a new camera for this event and everyone else was taking pictures.  These are the songs David sung in this order:  "I Can Feel Your Heartbeat", "C.C. Rider Blues/Jenny Jenny", "I'll Meet You Halfway", "No Bridge I Wouldn't Cross", "Echo Valley 2-6809",  "How Can I Be Sure", "Try a Little Tenderness", "River Deep, Mountain High", "Rescue Me" (Candace Davis-Martin), "Mack the Knife", "Lyin' to Myself", "Rock Me Baby", "Cherish", "I Woke Up in Love This Morning", "C'Mon Get Happy", "I Think I Love You", "Ain't No Sunshine", "Hollywood Nights".  He talked about that he doesn't consider himself romantic and a little about L.A. and the Ducks hockey team since they are in Anaheim.  He signed someone's thermos (Danny did too).  Girls threw up lingerie, stuffed animals, flowers.  I brought a rose and gave it to him during "Cherish".  He gave me a quick look of recognition.  He wore a white ruffled shirt and took it off and had a skin-tight white shirt on underneath. It was a wonderful concert and the only disappointment was not being able to take a few non-flash pictures!

My friends and I had our picture taken in front of the theater by an usher. He asked if any of us wanted the big poster on the building.  He gave us the name of who to ask for and he said they'll take it down the next morning and just throw it away so one of us should take it.  I stopped by the next morning to ask for her and she wasn't there.  They said it will probably come
down on Monday.  I finally was able to reach her by phone but she said they won't give it away.  She said they were once offered $5,000 for a Tom Jones poster!

I only slept about 2 hours that night.  David woke up in the middle of the night constipated and screaming in pain and it took an hour to calm him down. After I brought some luggage to load in my car, I went back to the room and the key wouldn't work.  I had to go down to the receptionist 4 times before she would put the right code in so the key would work!  Not surprisingly, it was the same receptionist who wanted to charge me for the free crib!  I met a friend in Burbank for lunch.  I had horrible traffic driving through L.A. to get home.  It must have been because of the 3-day weekend.
