Whew- what a night! Danny only did anly about 15 minutes & talked about how great David was for helping him out in the 90's & giving him a career. He came out in a huge white ruffled shirt & royal purple velvet coat, which he claimed he stole from David! He signed an Up-to-date LP cover (over Tracy's face- said no one would care) & a plastic Partridge Family lunchbox thermos, which he claimed he also once had, but at the time, it was filled with vodka. After he left the stage, the show started right
away with Lon Bronson. David came out in Danny's white ruffled shirt &
sang Heartbeat. He said that Entertainment Tonight was filming, &
that shirt would probably be the sceen shown for the next 50 years.
He took it off after the song & had a long-sleeved white ribbed T-shirt
underneat & tight black satin pants. He added How Can I Be Sure
& No Bridge (which he introduced as coming from his "new CD" coming
out in May - guess he forgot it was already a big hit from Old Trick New
Dog!), & also sang Lying To Myself & Aint No Sunshine (He sang
that as part of the finale, with Hollywood Nights, but said he should have
sang it an hour earlier). The rest of the song line up was the same
as the Rio Concert in November. The Grove is a small venue, but the tables
were really packed together. They had great closed-circuit big screens
on either side of the stage so we could see David in great close-up. No
Cassidy family members were present, but David called out Danny & Gretchen
on stage to wish them a Happy Valentines Day. Gretchen confessed

I just want to add a few things to Cheryl's great report. For those who don't know exactly what the November/Rio set list was, I want to add that David also sang C.C. Rider/Jenny Jenny, which he first added in London, but it's still fairly new to his setlist in the U.S. Not only did Danny autograph that fan's Partridge Family thermos, but David did too. He usually doesn't sign stuff from on stage because he says it would take too long to sign everything that was brought to him, but I think he made an exception this time because this fan begged and pleaded and explained that Danny had just signed it for her. Fans were throwing the usual assorted bras and panties onto the stage and he picked one bra up and said something like, "This is the kind I like...it's a 32-D. Who's is this? I'd like to meet her." Also, one woman put a Hawaiin lei around his neck and said into his microphone, "I just had to lay you just once." Very funny! I think he was a little naughtier that night because Sue and Beau weren't there. ;-) Here's some photos I took. http://www.geocities.com/Broadway/Lobby/7061/DavidatTheGrove.html My seat was pretty far away, but they came out okay. Fortunately, security was pretty lenient. Amy
I drove down to Anaheim for David's concert. Originally I was going to take baby David with me to the concert since babies are allowed there. I've been wanting to get a picture of the two David's together since he is named after him. I thought this would be a good time since I was in the front row and David usually pays attention to children and the people in the front row. Two days before the concert I changed my mind. I still brought him with me but hired a babysitter to watch him. The lady at the theater said it would be very loud in the front. I tried ear plugs on him but not sure if I would get them sealed in his ears so I didn't want to risk it. We went to the theater hoping I'd see David go
in for the sound check. I asked the guard if David had come yet.
He said he didn't know but he really didn't want me there. I was
parked in a different part of the parking lot than the backstage people
were who were coming around then. So I decided to wait at my car
so that I wouldn't get chased away. I had just bought a brand new
Canon camera for about $1000 so that I could use it for the concert and
I was reading the manual at my car. That didn't make much sense because
how would I see David arrive if my head is buried in the manual!
I glanced up at the right time because there was David standing there by
the backstage door!! I was probably a couple hundred feet away but it looked
like him. I pushed David over in that direction and stopped in the
next lane over from where he was. I didn't see him and assumed he
went inside. Then I noticed he was sitting in a white van!
He looked at me. I smiled and waved. (It reminded me exactly
of what happened when I went to the taping of "Politically Incorrect".
I was sitting in the audience directly behind him. For some reason
he just turned around. I smiled and waved. He gave me a confused
look and smiled and waved back.) He did the same thing
this time too! Then the van drove over to my lane and stopped right
next to me! I never even looked to see who was driving. David
rolled down the window and said hi. I told him my name. I said
I named my baby David after him and that I was wondering if I could get
a picture of them together. He said that was sweet. He really
didn't want to because he said he was in a hurry to go to dinner and he
was hungry. Then he said "Let me at least meet him. Why don't
you take him out of the stroller." Sounded like a good idea to me!
I unbelted him as fast as I could. I held him up to him and told
him that he has Down syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. He didn't
ask what that was (he probably didn't want one of my long explanations!).
I told him I was going to bring him to the concert but decided against
it since they said it would be loud and I was in the front row. He
said "Yes, it's going to be very loud." I asked if he could hold
him and I could get a quick picture. He said "Sure." I was surprised
since he didn't want to before. The only thing I could think of was
maybe he thought I wanted him to get out of the van before and then he
realized he didn't need to do that. I quick grabbed
My friends and I had our picture taken in front
of the theater by an usher. He asked if any of us wanted the big poster
on the building. He gave us the name of who to ask for and he said
they'll take it down the next morning and just throw it away so one of
us should take it. I stopped by the next morning to ask for her and
she wasn't there. They said it will probably come
I only slept about 2 hours that night. David woke up in the middle of the night constipated and screaming in pain and it took an hour to calm him down. After I brought some luggage to load in my car, I went back to the room and the key wouldn't work. I had to go down to the receptionist 4 times before she would put the right code in so the key would work! Not surprisingly, it was the same receptionist who wanted to charge me for the free crib! I met a friend in Burbank for lunch. I had horrible traffic driving through L.A. to get home. It must have been because of the 3-day weekend. Joyce
