The Basics
Charles is the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. He was born on November 14, 1948 at Buckingham Palace and was christened Charles, Philip, Arthur, George. Charles was first educated at Cheam School and then at Gordonstouns in Scotland. He studied at the University of Cambridge between 1967 and 1970. He actively participated in college life and acted in many plays while at Cambridge. He graduated in with a BA in 1970. He was invested as the Prince of Wales on July 1, 1969 at Caernarvon Castle and the next year he took his seat in the House of Lords. He spent the next 5 years in the Royal Navy but he did not enjoy it as much as his father and brother, Andrew did. He married Lady Diana Frances Spencer on July 29, 1981 at St. Paul's Cathedral. The couple have two children; Prince William, born on June 21, 1982 and Prince Harry, born on September 15, 1984. The marriage did not work out and they divorced in 1996 and the Princess of Wales died a year later on August 31. Charles remains active in Public life and has set up the Prince's Trust. This was started in 1976 and has helped 33,000 poor young people set up businesses. For now Charles is waiting to be King and it may be a long wait.
