Diana, Princess of Wales

The Basics

Biography:

Princess Diana is the youngest daughter of John, the 8th Earl of Spencer and the Honourable Mrs. Frances Shand-Kydd. She was born on July 1, 1961 at Park House, Norfolk and was christened Diana Frances Spencer. She has two older sisters Sarah and Jane, and a younger brother Charles. Her parents divorced in 1967 and she, with her siblings, contuined to live with their father at Park House. When her father became the 8th Earl of Spencer, in 1975, the family moved to Althorp, the family seat. She was educated at Riddlesworth Hall and then attended West Heath. She was not a great student but enjoyed swimming and dancing. In 1977 she left West Heath and attended a finishing school in Switzerland. That did not last and she left in 1978. She then moved to London and served as a nanny for awhile, then teaching Kindergarten at the Young England School. On July 29, 1981 she married Prince Charles at St. Paul's Cathedral. The couple has two sons, William, born on June 21, 1982 and Harry, born on September 15, 1984. The marriage did not work out and they seperated in 1992. After a very public and nasty battle they finally divorced in 1996. The couple shared custody of the boys and Diana lost her Royal Highness style, being known as Diana, Princess of Wales. She contuined her public duties and became very involved in working againest Land Mines. Unfortunately this would not last because she died in a Paris tunnel on August 31, 1997. She had a televised funeral and millions watched, mourning for their Princess. Today she lies at the family seat of Althorp on a secluded island. Three years later the world still mourns the loss of such a bright person.
