The Basics
Princess Margaret is the younger daughter of King George VI and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. She was born on August 21, 1930 at Glamis Castle, her grandparents Scottish house. She was christened Margaret Rose. Like her sister Margaret was educated at home and she enjoyed riding, swimming, and gardening. In 1937 she became a Brownie and when she was old enough she joined the Girl Guides. Margaret married Antony Armstrong-Jones, Earl of Snowden, on May 6, 1960. They have two children David, Viscount Linley, and Lady Sarah Chatto. David was born on November 3, 1961 and Sarah was born on May 1, 1964. Unfortunately the marriage did not work out and it was dissolved in 1978. It is believed that this happened because Margaret truly loved another man. Peter Townsend was her love during the 50's but Queen Elizabeth would not allow her sister to marry him and she settled for the the Earl of Snowden. Princess Margaret remains active in public life and to this day she attends all major events, including the Queen Mum's recent birthday. Sadley Princess Margeret passed away on February 9, 2002 from complications with a stroke. Margeret had been ill for some time and the entire royal family will miss her greatly!!!
