The films are listed in shooting order. Thus some films appear after others (Ever After after Foreign Correspondents), though they were released earlier.
Heavenly Creatures - AVAILABLE ON VIDEO - did you know that Melanie Lynskey was the first person to kiss Kate Winslet in a film ? Okay so it's not what's most important about this incredible film, but that's one way to look at it :-)
The Frighteners - AVAILABLE ON VIDEO -Mel's second appearance onscreen, again directed by Peter Jackson and scripted by Fran Walsh
Foreign Correspondents - LOOKING FOR A DISTRIBUTOR - written and directed by Mark Tapio Kines. This is Melanie's big return to the screen. A two-story film about loneliness, penpals, and incommunicability. Also starring Wil Wheaton, Corin Nemec, and Yelena Danova.
Ever After - ON VIDEO SOON (if not already) - Cinderella revisited with Drew Barrymore as Danielle (Cindy's new name) and Mel as the lovely stepsister (one of the two stepsister is very evil, but Mel is nice and fun). Mel's ticket to Hollywood.
The Cherry Orchard - LOOKING FOR A DISTRIBUTOR - Melanie goes to Bulgaria to play Chekhov with Katrin Cartlidge and Alan Bates
But I'm a cheerleader! - UPCOMING - Melanie plays a friend of this naive cheerleader (played by her real-life friend Natahsa Lyonne), whom everybody takes to be a lesbian (the cheerleader, not Mel. I think)
Detroit Rock City - OUT ON OCTOBER 22 (for the UK) - Melanie insists in not-playing the lead for this comedy about four teenagers scamming their way into a sold-out KISS concert, back in the seventies. With Edward Furlong and Giuseppe Andrews (they have bigger parts).
Coyote Ugly - NOW SHOWING IN THEATRES EVERYWHERE- A Christina Aguilera girl named Violet, from Little New Jersey goes to - guess where ? - New York (how did she do that ?) to become a singer. Her best friend, Gloria (Melanie Lynskey) appears a few times during the film. A "feel good" movie with "feel good" characters and "feel good" songs. For a "feel good" audience.
