Brother of Mine
Length: 30 minutes
Date: 1993
Topics: Culture of violence
Description: Aimed at young people in grades seven to twelve, Brother of Mine offers an absorbing examination of the culture of violence. Host Pat Mastroianni (formerly of De Grassi High) looks at violence in kids' lives – on the playground, in sports, in schools, in the home and on the street. The kids interviewed vary in age and experience: some are juvenile offenders, some are victims of school violence. Abuse, racism and sexism are presented as perversions of power. Kids hear from other kids and adults too about how our culture has normalized violence, and the role played by the media. Finally, Brother of Mine presents some solutions.
