Interview with Pat Mastroianni for PMC
By: Amanda Lang
1. Who has been your favorite character that you have played?
Joey is the obvious choice because I played him for so many years and
watched him grow as my abilities improved. He will
always be remembered and I will probably always be thought of Joey until
my
next series. After Joey, I would have to say that I enjoyed playing a
murder on John Woo's Once a theif. I got to play this dream sequence where
the room becomes a death chamber and my wife betrays me to the cops and
they
come storming in and tie me to the bed and kill me. My wife was played by
Biff Naked.
2.Who has been your influence in acting?
Not to many, I would say that my fav. actors are Pacino, DeNiro, Ed Norton,
and Christopher Walken. I enjoy a performance from an actor that looks
like they had a really good time playing the part. (Ex. Al Pacino in
Scarface)
3.If you could have 'lunch' with one famous person who would it be?
Francis Ford Coppola ( check spelling) I love the God Father movies and
I
would like to see what thoughts if any, he had about his films.
4. If you were not in the entertainment business which profession would
you be in?
Probably follow in my father steps. He owns his own construction business
and when I was a kid I always wanted to go to work with him. Even in the
winter when he would do snow removal, I would get really upset when I wanted
to go to work with him and my mom wouldn't let me. Ah.... the good old days
5. What is your favorite thing about acting?
It's the process of creating a show or film with the help of so many people
coming together each to do thier own part from the actors, to the producers
and the writers, the people who put up the lights and make food for the
cast
and crew. You meet a lot of really cool characters in this business. A
lot
of them don't even work in front of the camera. Oh yeah, the money aint
bad
either
6. What is the funniest/weirdest thing a fan has ever done to/for you?
I have had people send me clothes, watches, pitures, pictures they have
drawn, send poems, songs. It kinda makes me feel bad because 90% of the
time I feel like I'm reading someone elses mail. The fans only know
me(could only know me ) as Joey. That who they have learned to know and
who
they relate to and would like to get to know. They don't have a clue to
who
I am. It's not there fault, how would they know. I am completely different
from Joey. Even if you read an article on me I'm only allowing you know
so
much
7. What is your most memorable moment?
1988 Gemini's. It wasn't the most important day of my life ( my wedding
was ) but it was such a great moment because when I first wanted to get
in
this business it was because I was watching an award show and said to my
mother "It would be fun to walk up on stage and accept an award", a few
years later I was.
8. Did you do drama in school before Degrassi?
I didn't even take drama HIgh School. I don't know why but I think it was
an on the job tranning thing. I think anyone can get good at this if given
the chance and time to grow. I was given that chance.
9. If a fan asked you for advice on acting what would be the one thing
you
would say?
Get a back up plan. If you want to perform great but realize that if your
doing it for the money and you expect to support a family with the income
your in for a surprise. Unless your on a series there is not enough work
in
Canada for you to make a living. If you also work in an office and acting
is a hobby great, if one day your agent says you got the lead in the next
De
Nero movie awesome but acting in Canada is a labour of love and any actor
will tell you that it's not easy. I've stayed from your question though.
Theater, theater and theater. It's the only place to learn your craft
and
meet other actors and learn from there experiences.
