"OK man...here goes...Muthafist was a local heavy act from 1992-1996 in Charleston, SC consisting of Jim Payne on vocals, Brian Kivett and Robert Pepe on guitar, Dave Marvel on bass, and my man on drums. During that time, they put out two albums...Dwell and Greed. They were fortunate enough to have the second album, Greed, mixed by Mitch the man at Brickhenge in Kernersville. Chuck fondly remembers the guys in the band making lewd and crude poetry with word magnets all over Mitch's industrial size fridge. :-) Do you want to know anything else? I'll be happy to oblige."

The Baskervilles - A NYC Based Band Have Been Working With Mitch On A Soon To Be Completed Project,More News When I Get It.I've Been Told They Are To Record One More Session In 8/2000 Before Piecing The Album Together.

Rob Complies Completely With The Posting Of This Little News Nuggett...

Dear Marrrk,

Hi. My band has been working with Mitch for the last 2 years, and I just returned from North Carolina from a bit of re-mixing and mastering. We aren't quite ready to release our album yet, but plan to finish recordings for the first slab in August. I think it is great that you are doing a Mitch devotional page. He played "Sudden Crown Drop" for me and I love it. It's amazing. Mitch said that he actually booked time for himself to finsish some of his rockers this Summer. I can't wait. If you'd like a copy of a few of the tunes we recorded with Mitch, I'd be happy to send them your way. Take Care, Rob

<< Hey Rob! That would be cool! Who are you guys?>>

We are the Baskervilles. <http://Thebaskervilles.tripod.com> Several Mitch photos!

<<Where are you from?>>

We are based in New York City. Craig (the drummer) and I (singer, guitarist) moved to NY from Florida. Christoph (the bassist) is from Germany and Jackie (the violinist/pianist/singer) is from Yonkers. In 1998 we played with a guitar player from Philadelphia named Chris, who left the band shortly after our first Mitch session.

<<It must be amazing working with that guy, huh? I have countless articles and even an old IRS's Cutting Edge show that he explains his whys and where-fors...mic placement....that backwards and slowed to a crawl colliding poolball *sound* somewhere on Murmur...the reason he digs old stuff...he said once that if "something looked cool...he'd get the sound out of it he was going for, somehow!">>

It was great working with him. I've wanted to record with him since I got into REM in 1987. He has an incredible knowledge of music. When we first recorded with him in 1998, the small painting for Cypress hung in the control room and he had a small picture of Joe Meek above his console. He was playing a Scott Walker CD and was really into Krautrock, which our German bass player is an expert on. Mitch has a great collection of books and fantastic taste in furniture and design. When we were driving home from North Carolina this March after mixing, we put on Murmur. The mystery was gone! Some of the sounds from Let's Active and REM records are on our recordings. Murmur and Cypress are still two of my favorite records ever. btw - I'd love to get a copy of that Cutting Edge video.

<<My way of thinkin! Keep in touch,Rob...and keep checking back on that page, okay!>>

I'd love to. I might have some photos of Mitch that I could send you copies of if you'd like.

August 1998 - The Baskervilles recorded inside Mitch's house, a beautiful two story brick mansion, which he used as his residence and recording studio. The mixing console was downstairs. Musicians were situated upstairs and downstairs in 3 separate rooms and the hall. The Baskervilles recorded Put A Rainbow In Your Hair, Drifting, Fill Your Mouth With Things To Say And Kiss Me Good-bye Once More, Cling Yeah, She Comes Around (fast version), She Is Pleasant, Bells Ring Haunting New York City, Hush Baby, and Sex Rock. August 1999 - The new Fidelitorium studio, located behind Mitch's house, had just been completed. Fidelitorium is a beautiful structure with organic architecture inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. Small rooms open unexpectedly into generous open spaces. His studio is so pleasant that it is easy to stop time and make music. The Baskervilles recorded songs with a new player, violinist/pianist named Jackie, taking the band from the 1998 garage rock sound into a prettier pop direction. The Baskervilles recorded She Comes Arou nd (slow version), Roof At #34, Opening On Thompson, A Free Show In Battery Park, Arnold's Date For Lunch, Day One Amanda Year, Anthem For The Acquaintances, Any Time At All, You're The Girl With A Lightbulb Head, Flight Of The Succubus, and See You Later Heartbreaker. We are going to record one more session in August 2000 before piecing an album together!

Thanks for your interest Mark! Be looking for a CD soon. let's rock, Rob

Bobby Sutliff - "Bitter Fruit" On Notlame,Mitch Is All Over This One!

From The Notlame Records Site - Amazing new CD from this ex-Windbreaker co-leader and very much in the classic style of the ‘Breakers. With help from Mitch Easter, Bobby weaves a magical jangle fest that lifts the soul. He disappeared for too many years and it is our joy to bring him back into the light for us all to enjoy again.

Hi Mark,

Enjoyed your Mitch page - it's a lot of fun. I was in Kernersville a couple
of weeks ago picking up an amp and got to hear Shalini practice. The rhythm
section was John Heames on bass and Eric Marshall on drums (just like the 89
Let's active tour). I went out on that tour as guitar tech/occasional
auxiliary guitar player so it was great seeing John & Eric again. Oh - the
band was fab. Have you seen any of those amazing William
Shatner/Priceline.com tv commercials? Eric is the drummer in that combo.
For your discography: "Another Jangly Mess" is on Tambourine records not
Urine records, although considering how much they paid me you may be right
after all.

I went to NC in february to do some backing vocals on the Orange Humble disc
(I sang on the Some Loves disc years ago). I think it's being remixed for
the umpteenth time, and may come out sometime this decade.
Ken Stringfellow has booked Mitch's studio for the month of June to do his
new record.
There - that's all I know!

Take care,
Bobby

Revelation Darling - Introducing our new cd welcome to the static: it was produced by Genius Ted Comerford, mixed by Living Legend Mitch Easter, and will be available in May.

Excerpts taken from a few letters from Matt Boswell of Revalation Darling...

"Cool.... actually not only did Mitch mix our disc, but he played organ on a couple of tunes as well."

The Band's Site

Mark,

We are now from raleigh, NC. At the time, we were living in VA except for our bass player who was in Raleigh. Ted Comerford, who produced our record, used to be in a band with Alex, our singer.... Ted has a sort of open-door policy with Mitch meaning that he can work at the Fidelitorium whenever he likes as long as Mitch doesn't have something booked. So anyhow, we went in there a week before Christmas in last year. Mitch helped us get set up (did a little engineering I guess you could call it) and then we just flew with it. We recorded 5 songs in 5 days and then took a 6th day for Mitch to mix. We finished mixing at 6am on Christmas Eve. I don't know if you've ever been there (his studio) but it is a magical place. We had the added benefit of getting there right after his Christmas party, so we had the honor of 'cleaning the place up' ie eating all the leftover food (mostly candy) and drinking all the leftover liquor (mostly bourbon). All in all, a fine time....

Indoor Storm - "Metaphysical Blues"...Hi. Indoor Storm has just released our second CD -- . It was produced by Mitch Easter

Thanks,Doug Abrams,Indoor Storm

Mark,

Thanks so much for the note. We were really honored that Mitch would produce our CD. Mitch is a incredible to work with as a producer. He is also extremely humble, so the atmosphere is always condusive to creativity. As a side note, we've booked time with Mitch in January and February of 2001 for our Third CD -- Way of the World. In terms of Metaphysical Blues, the challenge in production of the CD was how to capture the live free spirit feel of the Band. The songs range in approach from pure roots rock, the blues rock, some almost jazz rock and some songs that defy labelling. All are built around the combination of lead guitars and lyrics. The lyrics are essential to the music. Mitch helped us enormously in refining the guitar tones and the basic feel of the songs. The tones are lush and yet have a clarity. Also, the mixing of the CD by Mitch is exquisite. He is a national treasure.

Shalini - "We Want Jelly Donuts" On Parasol (Not Much Info Yet),Her Site

Orange Humble Band- "Humblin' (Across America)" On Half A Cow(Same Deal)

From The Half A Cow Site - The second Orange Humble Band album "Humblin' (Across America)" has recently been finished, mixed and mastered and will be ready for release very soon. Mainman Darryl Mather has just returned from the US with the tapes - again featuring the vocals of Ken Stringfellow with an incredible cast including Mitch Easter, Jody Stephens and Jim Dickinson. Hey! Even Spooner Oldham. A four track EP will precede the LP in mid-June with the title song "Any Way You Want It".

From Fredrik's Posies Page, Ken Stringfellow's Posies News - A new album with the Orange Humble Band has also been recorded. The recording took place in Memphis in Ardent Studios with Ken,singing and Jody Stephens (Big Star) playing drums & Jamie Hoover playing bass. Mitch Easter produced and played guitar again. Ken says it will be a "whitecountrysoul thing along with the usual pop of OHB on this one". Sounds good to me! And the compilation mentioned below is being worked on slowly. Late '99 is still the expected release. A Posies live disc will also be released so on Houston party records soon (Spanish label). More on all this later...

Ken Stringfellow is currently (June) holed up at Brickhenge concocting some poppy confections...album due sometime in early 2K1.

The Hollows - From Their Website - . The new record will hopefully be co-produced and mixed by Mitch Easter, who you may know from the early REM records. Although, he has also worked with Wilco, Game Theory, Pavement, Suzanne Vega, Squirrel Nut Zippers...oh I love to name drop...we actually love his own stuff as well...like Let’s Active and his solo stuff he has put out.
