The Beginning!
Catherine (Kate) Bush was born in England, 1958 and loved music
from an early age. She started off writing and creating songs on her piano until she progressed. A family freind introduced Kate Bush to Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd. She made a demo and by the age of 16 was signed to EMI records. She spent the first 3 years of her career improving her dancing, singing technique and song writing skills. At 19, she was ready to release her music. The first song she released was the fantastic 'Wuthering Heights' an original, beautiful and simply stunning song which hit the top of the charts in many countries, including her home Britian where it stayed at number 1 for a month!! In 1978, she released her first album 'The Kick inside' which sold well and another hit single was released from it 'The man with the child in his eyes'.
So now Kate was famous!
Kate needed to release a strong follow up to 'The Kick inside' if she wanted her career to survive, but her record company wanted to release a quick follow up to get a bit of money in. So she quickly recorded her 2nd album 'Lionheart' which was succesful enough and provided a few chart hits.Kate got to work on her 3rd album. In 1980 she broke back into the charts with the classic 'Babooshka' with a fantastic video to match, it stormed the charts and Kate was back on top. Her 3rd album 'Never for ever' was released and provided 2 more hits 'Breathing' and 'Army Dreamers'.
Now that she was popular, she felt safe to do some experimenting. So she produced her 4th album all by herself and created an adventurous, ahead of her time album 'The Dreaming'. Unfortuanetly, the public were a bit taken back by her new 'even crazier' style and the album didnt do quite as well as hoped. But this didnt stop Kate from starting again. In fact, she built a recording studio in her er, shed and worked on her next album for 3 years. When it was ready, she stormed back into the charts with 'Running up that hill' which was a huge hit and even made her mark in America where she had previously been completely unknown. Kate released her 5th album 'Hounds of love' and knocked Madonna off the top of the album charts staying at number 1 for 4 weeks!! Another 3 hits were released from Hounds of love, which got rave reviews and is still considered her best work, and one of the best albums (by any artist) of all time!
Soon after Kate released her first greatest hits 'The Whole story' which included 11 of her most famous singles and a new one named 'Experiment IV', of course it went straight to the top in the UK album charts!
Kate would find it hard to follow up the huge success of Hounds of love and decided to make an easy going follow up 'The sensual world' released in 1989. The Sensual world did well in the British charts and produced 3 singles. After a 4 year break she came back with her 7th album, the most commercial sounding one yet 'The red shoes' which wasnt enough to put her back upto the top with 'Hounds of love', but did well in the UK charts and had 5 hit singles.
And now what?
For 9 years since the release of 'The Red shoes' in 1993 Kate has been quiet, apart from a remaster release of Hounds of love in 1997.
She gave birth to a son named Bertie a couple of years ago, and has been enjoying life. Check out my News page reguarly as i will try to give you the news as it comes. Kate has been working on a new album since December 1999, before its release we should be seeing remasters of the remaining 6 albums, which should include b-sides and new picture layouts. As for the album, *hopefully* it will be released in 2002 (fingers crossed).............
