Rhiana Griffith Questionnaire

»•BGM: What is your date of birth? Location?

RG: 16/4/85, I'm 15, my star sign is Aries and I live in beautiful Australia

BGM: How did the character of Jack evolve from the script to the screen?

RG: To begin with my character's name was Audrey, but we changed that to JACK/JACKIE, it's a little more androgynous don't you think. :oÞ I think Jack evolved from script to screen the moment I had my head shaved. I had long blonde hair and when that was gone it became much easier to be Jack. I watched the guys around set, copied their walks and the way they did things. I also wore boy’s clothes a lot and one of my rules was "No lips, no hips."

BGM: According to the poll on the website, Jack is the second most popular character in the film next to Riddick, despite the relatively small amount of screen time devoted to Jack. Does this surprise you?

RG: Yeah definitely, I mean I didn't expect any of this. I'm really glad that people have responded so well to my character. It's great to read the different opinions that people have, not only about Jack, but all the other characters too. The support on the net for Pitch Black has been amazing.

BGM: Your American accent in the film was flawless. Did it come naturally, or did you have to work with a coach?

RG: I think it did come to me naturally. It was probably something that helped me in the casting process for Pitch Black. David actually asked me who taught me, my American accent. I said something like, "No one, I just watch a lot of American TV." Though I did have a dialect coach for about the first three days.

BGM: What other members of the cast did you get along with the best?

RG: I got along very well with the whole cast and crew. They were all such interesting and wonderful people, but from the cast I was probably closest to Vin and his production partner George Zakk, the boys who played the pilgrims Ali, ( Firass Dirani ) Suleiman, ( Les Chantery ) and Hassan, Sam Sari ). I also spent alot of time with Radha Mitchell and Claudia Black, they are both such beautiful and talented people. Plus Lewis Fitzgerald is great, I learnt so much from him.

BGM: How did the film crew manage all the gear and personnel while filming in Coober Pedy? From where did you commute?

RG: I think they had about six semi-trailors transport all their equipment, etc from QLD to Coober Pedy. We flew to Adelaide airport and from there we flew to the smallest airport I've ever seen. I don't think you could even call it an airport. I stayed in a place called, The Mud Hut with my Grandad, from which we travelled for about half an hour to the days location. I'm glad I wasn't staying underground.

BGM: What is your favorite subject in school?

RG: My favourite subject at school is definitely art. I won the 'Junior School Art Award', for '99.

BGM: How did you decide to become an actress?

RG: I used to do catwalk modelling when I was younger and from that I started doing catologues and magazine shoots, to commercials, to tv guest roles and then I did a beautiful Australian feature film called 15 Amore, which is the story of the director's childhood and it was set in 1945 war time. It's so innocent and romantic and that was the turning point for me, that's when I knew I wanted to be an actress. I fell in love with it.

BGM: Is Vin Diesel as intimidating in person as he is on the screen?

RG: No!! He's a gentle giant, he calls me his 'lil' sis and I can definitely say that he is so not intimidating. He's a very genuine person and I'm glad to have worked with him.

BGM: What projects are you working on now? Are you able to discuss them?

RG: I'm always auditioning for things and for the moment I'm content to be doing that and year 10 at school. Just lately I have been doing press for Pitch Black as it comes out in Aust on May 18.

BGM: What are your favorite hobbies?

RG: I love spending time with my family and friends, shopping, going to the movies and the beach and PARTIES, painting, listening to music, playing my drum and composing songs on my piano.

BGM: Do you have any siblings? What are their names and ages?

RG: Yes I have an older brother Damien, he's 19 and I love him. We are good friends, I think it's important to have a good relationship with your family.

BGM: What kind of music do you listen to?

RG: My radio is constantly on, I listen to an Aussie station called Tripple J. I like pretty much everything except manufactured pop and country music. My favourite stuff at the moment is Morcheba-Big Calm, Massive Attack-Mezzanine, Moby-Play, Nirvanva, The Doors, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Ani Defranko.

BGM: How long did it take for your hair to grow back? How did your friends and classmates react to it?

RG: It has been 18 months since I last had my head shaved. My friends were fine about it, of course it would have been weird but they got used to it. People stared at me alot especially when I went through a phase of dying it different colours like purple and silver etc. My nick name was G.I.Jane, which seems appropriate as she was another one of David Twhoy's characters.
