Highly respected Church of England priest Father Frank Gelli comes forth to reveal that Diana, Princess of Wales had spoken with him about Dodi Fayed, and discussed the possibility of marriage: "Diana asked me if I would be able to perform the service when she got married. Her love was obvious. Whenever she mentioned Dodi's name, her face lit up....She was looking for Christian approval for her relationship with Dodi. I had spent two years in Turkey and she wanted to know how Muslim women were treated by their men. She seemed impressed by the respect she got from Dodi. She felt he could take care of her, and offer her the love and security she had never really known. Diana was a warm person who craved affection. I think she found that with Dodi. She told me how fond he was of her children, William and Harry. She says they enjoyed his company. That meant a great deal to her."
Father Gelli says that he's only now coming foward because of the harsh criticism of her by Patrick Jephson in his new book. "It's time to tell the truth. That's what Diana would have wanted. I am not betraying her trust."
The Italian-born 56-year-old Oxford graduate says Diana used to quietly worship in the back of St. Mary Abbots Church, just 300 yards from her home in Kensington Palace, but had never spoken to her, until after Diana called to thank him for the letter of support he'd written after she was roasted for having taken her sons to see controversial movie about the IRA, "The Devil's Own."

"When we met, she seemed very upbeat. I called her Your Royal Highness. She laughed and told me to call her Diana. But I stuck to Highness.
"At first she didn't mention Dodi. We talked about theology, the devil, and the supernatural." But eventually, she opened up to him, questioning him about the relationships between Muslim men and women, and discussing Dodi directly, as mentioned above.
Later, Father Gelli knew she was serious about Dodi when he saw her shortly before her fateful trip to Paris in 1997: She stopped by my house on the way to the gym. She wanted to know if it was possible for people of two different religions to marry. I told her it was. As we spoke, the telephone rang. It was obviously Dodi. Her eyes lit up. As she was leaving, she asked if I would be able to perform the service when she got married..."

The last time he spoke to the doomed princess, it was Friday, August 22, when she was on the yacht with Dodi."She told me she was happy. She said she had some good news and seemed excited. She invited me to go to Kensington Palace on her return. Eight days later, I heard on the radio she was dead. I felt numb. She was so happy, and very much in love. Diana was looking forward to the future." He speculates that she was about to announce her engagement to Dodi. "Diana was smitten with Dodi. She had been badly hurt, and he healed her pain. I feel sure they would have married."
