Cathy Jones

Gemini award-winning actor and writer and founding member of the award-winning comedy troupe CODCO, Cathy Jones is Canada's leading lady in character-driven comedy.

Starring in the hit comedy series This Hour Has 22 Minutes and her own one-hour special, Cathy Jones Gets A Special, Cathy reveals her remarkable ability to portray complex and difficult characters with remarkable ease.

Over the years, Cathy has had several successful ventures, including her one-woman show, Wedding in Texas. This smash hit received rave reviews across Canada, and showcased her ability to take pot shots at the war between the sexes without alienating either sex.

Cathy's film career includes the lead role in the Mike Jones film, Secret Nation, which aired on CBC Television. She also played a professional wrestler in Mark Tolefson's film, Desiree's Wish.

In 1995, Jones co-hosted the Juno Awards with the rest of the cast of 22 Minutes. Later that year, Jones made a special guest appearance at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal and appeared at the Festival again in 1997 along with her 22 Minutes co-stars Rick Mercer and Greg Thomey. Jones hosted the live gala presentation of the East Coast Music Awards in 1997 and co-hosted the 1998 Gemini Awards with Steve Smith.

In addition to earning 10 Gemini Awards, Cathy earned 2 Canadian Comedy Awards for Best Writing in a Comedy Series for her work on This Hour Has 22 Minutes.






Rick Mercer

One of this country's most highly respected writer/actors, Rick Mercer continues to provoke and agitate politicians when they least expect it on This Hour Has 22 Minutes. In addition to his work on This Hour, Rick stars in the third season of Salter Street Films' Gemini Award winning comedy series Made in Canada, which he created with Gerald Lunz and Michael Donovan.

His outstanding contribution to comedy with political punch has been recognized with 14 Gemini Awards for both writing and performing on the top-rated This Hour Has 22 Minutes. Also for his work on the series, Mercer was co-named Journalist of the Year at the Atlantic Journalism Awards. Other awards include the 1993 Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council Artist of the Year and in spring of 2000, he earned 3 Canadian Comedy Awards for his work on This Hour and Made in Canada.

Hailing from St. John's, Newfoundland, Mercer premiered his one-man show at Ottawa's National Arts Centre (NAC) in 1991. Show Me the Button, I'll Push It became a national hit and was performed from St. John's to Vancouver. His second one-man show, the critically acclaimed I've Killed Before; I'll Kill Again opened at NAC in 1992. It played to sold-out houses across Canada. His latest single-hander, A Good Place to Hide, also premiered at the NAC in May 1995, and was met with critical praise and full houses.

Time and Maclean's have published his work. In June 1998, his first book, Streeters was published by Doubleday and quickly rose to #1 on the Globe and Mail's National Best Seller List.

He hosted the East Coast Music Awards in 1998/1999 and the 2000 Gemini Awards where Made in Canada was honored with the award for Best Comedy Series.






Greg Thomey

From the hip the delivery, sharp wit and a razor edged sense of timing are just a few of the talents the Gemini awarding winning Greg Thomey brings to the cast of This Hour.

Hailing from Newfoundland, Greg has been a cornerstone of comedy scene there for years as a writer and performer with the acclaimed comedy troupe CODCO and in his own right as an actor and playwright. His comic achievements have been honoured with 10 Gemini Awards.

He was applauded for his memorable performance as Brother Glackin in the internationally acclaimed feature length film The Boys of St. Vincent. His original stage play Hanlon House which was first produced by the Resource Centre for the Arts in St. John's went on to be produced as a short film, winning the Best Short Film award at the Atlantic Film Festival in 1992. Hanlon House was aired on CBC-TV's Arts program later that year.

In 1995, Greg co-hosted the Juno Awards with the rest of the cast of This Hour Has 22 Minutes and has performed with Rick Mercer and Cathy Jones in a special appearance at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal.

In addition to his work on This Hour, Greg also starred in a six-part series called Daily Tips for Modern Living that aired on CBC TV.






Mary Walsh

Ten-time Gemini award winner Mary Walsh's dynamic range of characters on This Hour Has 22 Minutes includes the flagrantly outspoken Marg Delahunty, redneck reporter Dakey Dunn and wacky Prairie correspondent Connie Bloor. In addtion to her cast of characters on This Hour, Mary has lent her recognizable voice to COD: The Fish That Changed the World and was featured in the award-winning documentary feature film Rain, Drizzle and Fog, about life in Newfoundland. She has revealed her hilarious Newfoundland bent on politics and current affairs to comedy fans since the award-winning CODCO troupe hit the stage 20 years ago. From CODCO to the popular series This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Mary's roles and variety of characters have earned her critical acclaim and numerous awards and This Hour Has 22 Minutes' comic achievements have earned the comedy series two International Emmy nominations.

She recently starred in the feature film Violet, which premiered at the Atlantic Film Festival; The Divine Ryans with Pete Postlethwaite; and New Waterford Girl, which made its American debut at Sundance. Prior to that she appeared in the feature Extraordinary Visitor with Andy Jones and starred alongside Michael Moriarty in the award winning TV mini series Major Crime that broadcast on CBC.
