Subject: Hi, from LORNE!

Hi SONJA,

I dont' know if it's my time of life or what, but I started getting these Classmates emails, kind of ignored them, and then had a fellow from the past RALPH SALZY send me a note and figured it was worth $9.88 US to say hello to him....and your name popped up as well.

Well, I saw your name and profile pop up. I just want to say when you left SHCI, it was kind of an epiphany for me. In my mind you were always a very kind classmate and friend. always ....and there you seemed to go..... off to a new adult life right in the middle of high school., way ahead of the pact, it seems. It was kind of a signal that things were changing from just being kids into the realm of adulthood. I remember very clearly in the September when you didn't return to school, it hit me right between the eyes!!...and I didn't even have a chance to wish you well.

I believe people don't change a hell of lot from what you can see in their eyes in youth, so I hope you read this in the spirt it was meant, and not some silly attempt to rekindle or connect to images of the past... although in the same vein, it's kinda like a bit of closure to say "hi" after so many years to someone I remember so clearly.

Me? I've been married for 26 years to nice Irish lady from Dublin...I have 3 teens that drive me nutso. and i have been trading commodities (mostly food products) for the past 30 years, after getting a science degree and playing around in labs for 4 or 5 years and discovering I'm really a trader.I live in Etobicoke West. I can see from your bio, that you have/were in theatre..that's so cool.. I do most of my acting in real life.......my wife also has been a director and actor in community theatre.....I tend to act out rather than act.....apparently I have driven her from being a physiotherapist to pursing a Pychotherapist career.

I dont' keep a lot of contact with people from the past as I tend to live in the moment and act spontaneously without foresight....which could explain this email to you today...but hey, what the heck. I could hardly talk to you 35 years ago cuz I was always in dumbstruck mode. Figure I can risk acting a bit at 55 anyhoo and saying hello to a nice lady I remember so well.

Of course, this is going to read like gobbe-dee-gook, if you dont' actually remember who I was. So please forgive me if this comes across as strange. At any rate, thank you for reading.

Anyway, I'm very thankful to have known you!

SONJA, I just tried to respond on classmates, but I'm obviously too verbose for them...so forwarded to the email you had given me.

SONJA,

Oh my goodness, SONJA, I wrote that note to you on "Classmates" in 2010, if not 2009! But I am very very chuffed to hear back from you.... Like you, I joined up on Classmates on one of those nostalgic whims but in 2009, but I haven't bothered with it much since then....BUT, the inbox notification from CM ended up in my Spam file on my gmail account, and I was just about to delete it on Sunday without opening and at the last second, I opened it and, there you were!

I just want to say Thank you so very much for completing a circle in my life pathway from 40 years ago (yup, 1972!) by relaying a little about your own path in your note. We all have incomplete circles, like Venn diagrams, that we wish someday to be completed and of course there are some we definitely don't' want completed ever again and some that are oblivious and superfluous to our lifepaths. So I am so happy to hear from you.

I must say, when I first came across your name in 2009, I read and viewed with interest your bio on Angelfire. You have a very wonderful way of intertwining your career path with your life path and I found it a very intriguing read. I would never have imagined that you would have become an actor and to live such a sparkling time in California as well as Canada. You were one of the smart people in the Level 5's at SHCI and I would have you pegged to have headed to be a lawyer or academic....but that was impressions from teen years! Then again, who would have thought back then I would have become Commodity Trader (:

SHCI contacts??....sorry....Never kept up much with alumnae from SHCI...there was a 10 year reunion in 83 that I attended but that is the last one I believe. Sat at dinner with PATSY CALDWELL and DONNA BAIN. (SUSAN BORISKA, lived around the corner from us on Summitcrest, and knew some of her history until I lost touch with the last of the Tallon Road neighbors) . I believe TIM LOWMAN orchestrated some of that...believe he is a Bay Street Lawyer which makes sense, but (BRUCE) SELLARS and Upeniks, no info. PAT MANAHAN is a CA and his family lived in my neighborhood in West Etobicoke in the mid 80's, but left his wife and kids shortly thereafter. SANDY ALEXANDER went to Queens and is/was an MD. She worked at Etobicoke Medical Centre for a spell, but never contacted her although our family cottages in the Muskokas were close and we got together a couple of times up there. Sally Lithgow married not long after uni, but unfortunately I remember she passed away quite young, probably 25 years ago or more. I kept in touch with David Hutchinson for a number of years until about 2000, but he sort of went a little strange and I don't' think ever worked much beyond the mid eighties, although he had a wife and 2 children in London, Ontario. I actually hired JOHN SILCOX to work in my area at Canada Packers back in 1980; he moved out to the west a couple years after that with my company, but then left. We didn't' get along. ERNIE DURLING works for Maple Leaf Foods (as do I....35th year...yikes) has been out in Saskatchewan for quarter century and we exchanged cursory emails when he saw me written up in the Maple Leaf News. We were pretty close in Grade 13 as I dated his wife's twin sister so we were a hot and heavy foursome....until I went to France for a school trip, met another and unceremoniously dumped future his sister in law upon return. We live and learn. Another circle that doesn't need to get completed. I had a younger SHCI girlfriend, HEATHER SPROUL, for 3 years, while I was at university in Hamilton, almost married (another story). HEATHER and I met up again about 9 years ago at a skating rink where my daughter was taking figure skating lessons and her son was playing hockey, had some nice lunches and walked our dogs together on Saturdays (probably more than we should have) : fortunately I told my wife I was meeting up with Heather from time to time; unfortunately HEATHER didn't tell her husband......yikes.... (another story). Ok...I have to stop.... Don't know why I writing this to you and why I am telling you such details..... this SCHI paragraph is running on suddenly...but....enjoy or delete. Reader's choice.

Wow,Sonja, you threw me for a sec there when you said you are waiting for your pension to kick in! I had to give my head a slap....as of course I think I'm finally writing to a school friend I knew as if it is still 1972..and yes, I just rechecked my calendar and it is indeed 2012. Then I had to remind myself (without looking in the mirror) that there is a 40 year gap of experiences in there somewhere and, I too, am coming to life/circumstance changes voluntarily and likely un-voluntarily. We all have our experiences that molds us to what we are today. I do want you to know that from your short letter back to me, I know you still and you are, in essence, the same person, even through the fog of time. That is a comforting discovery.

If I hear of any SHCI reunions or if I come across any alumnae, I'll be sure to pass them along. I think I'm going to give "Classmates" the drop eventually, so if you so choose (depending on how you care to receive this letter), we can continue to chat. I won't be so bold as to email you directly so I'll just answerback on CM. I'm a tick conservative that way as I don't' like to tread on unwelcome grounds.

I am on LinkedIn, Facebook etc, so if you care to form a link for the future on either of those social media venues, I would certainly like that. They are amazing for finding people; I came across 2 lost cousins in London and Switzerland recently that I lost touch with when my mum died and so FB is wonderful in that the links are always there at hand when needed.

There was lots of people there and It was kinda neat to see some of them again..(not all of them....jerks are still jerks 40 years later as it turns out) .they had areas to meet for each decade.........some things are best left in the distant 40 year past. Some of our class year still have kept in communication with one another......one person handed me her cell phone and I ended up talking to a girl fromm grade 10 i went out with.... CATHY STUBBS and she said she just found out she was going to be a grannie.....that was weird i gotta tell you!!!

From Lorne Dickie Sent Friday, June 20, 2014 at 3:08 PM ~ 1/ AL HARRIS aged well. He married a girl in his class.....MACLEAN i think and she and him were part of organizing reunion. 2/SHARON is indeed the one u noted on fb. She has a daughter and is married. She was always ahead on things and mature so no wonder she had the bees and birds figured by grade 4. 3/ i didnt take pics but sure there will be a website up somewhere. 4/ KATHY GEORGE, MIKE WHEATSTONE, Peter Mackenzie, CHRIS ASLETT , DAVID FLETCHER, HUGH TOMLINSON, DAVE HEIGHWAY, ED (Leo) Upeniks......DONNA BAIN looks good at 60. She told me Leo U had died. (RIP) 5/ I manage and trade international /global sales for mlf on meats, cheese and grocery products to china, japan, South Korea, Australia Russia and New Zealand, i have 3 children in university and my wife is in her 5th year training as a jungian psychoanalyst after changing from being a physio for 30......the cash flow banging out right now is equal to the GDP of a lesser African country. retirement? bahhahahahahaha.

I'm gonna stop with the points otherwise I'll write something that would say that you made a much more lasting impression on many a young men than one backward awkward young man who thru a grade 8 party made on a person like you.... So I wont.

SONJA:

You may be happy or horrified to know that there were at least 4 young men to my personal knowledge who had crushes on you during high school..... I recall that I was one of them.

Good to hear from you after all this time. Let me know that the years since Scarlett Heights have been as kind to you as they have to me.

Regards TIM LOWMAN
