We come from a village of Gonda district in the Uttar Pradesh state of India. Poonam was born in the town of Basti (UP, India), after primary education in Basti she moved to University of Gorakhpur to complete her BA and MA degrees in Hindi literature. Thereafter she joined Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi in 1996 and completed her M.Phil degree in Hindi literature under the guidance of renowned Poet and Writer Prof. Kedar Nath Singh. She completed her Ph.D at School of Languages, Culture and Literature Studies, JNU, under the guidance of well known literary figure and writer Prof. Ganga Prasad Vimal. Poonam has given programs in Radio and Television from Gorakhpur and New Delhi. She has written many poems and stories in Hindi and currently writing a book based on her M.Phil and PhD research work.
I am a farmer by heart, I would love to settle back in my village some day. I was born in a village called Ashokpur in Gonda district of UP state. After my primary and secondary education at Nawabganj, I moved to Kanpur city to complete my B.Sc. degree in Agriculture and Animal Husbandry from CSA University of Agriculture & Technology. After that, I received a scholarship from the British Government to study at the University of Kent at Canterbury for M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology. I completed PhD in Human Molecular Biology at the Grosshadern Hospital, University of Munich, Germany and moved to Program in Molecular Medicine, Univesity of Massachusetts Medical School, USA for postdoctoral research. Then I moved to Leeds Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Leeds, UK. From there I went to Dept. of Gene and Cell Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, USA. After moving back to India, I worked as Professor and Head, School of Biotechnology, International Institute of Information Technology, Pune, India. Currently I am an independent professional involved in building biotech company and research/teaching institute. My broad area of expertise is Molecular Biology of Stem Cells, Cancer Biology and Molecular Medicine.
