August 29 - 31, 2000 Seeing the sights around LA was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. Bessie especially loved the beach. The first picture shows our crazy cow at Newport Beach enjoying the saltwater and the seagulls. Our next stop was at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena where Bessie tried to sneak on the field to munch on the famous grass. Security flipped out and we soon turned away. Olvera Street was stop number three. This famous street is one of the oldest in Los Angeles and is now a Mexican marketplace with sidewalk shops selling Mexican handicrafts and plenty of restaurants serving Mexican dishes. Bessie was delighted! This is one cow that loves to shop. She came a way with a beautiful leather purse. (We didn't have the heart to tell Bessie where leather comes from.) The last stop was at the La Brea Tar Pits where more than 3 million fossils have been recovered from the asphalt beds. These pits are among the greatest sources of ice-age fossils of prehistoric plant and animal life. Bessie didn't like the tar smell too much, nor did she care for the life sized replicas stuck in the tar showing how her ancestors all died. We then reminded her she was a cow and not an elephant and she felt much better.
