PREVIOUS Part 8 of 9 in Bessie's Florida Trip. NEXT
March 10, 2001 The week was over and everyone was anxious to return home. Yet Bessie refused to quit. Once we hit Atlanta on our drive north, she insisted we veer off the freeway and take a side-trip through the mountains. While it was interesting and secenic (At least until it got dark) it added quite a few more hours on our return trip. The first picture was taken in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. It was the only picture we got before dark. At the top of the mountains it was very dark and very cold. In fact, as you can see in the second picture, there was still snow piled up. Bessie was excited to be out and about after dark though, and tried talking us into a hike down the Appalachian trail. The group concensus was a resounding, "NO!" We'll save that adventure for another time.
