So read away, and after you do, click at the link below to review it. I would really appreciate your opinions on it! Enjoy!
Part I : The Toupee
Colin glanced at his watch. Shoot, he was twenty minutes late to rehersal. His flight to LA had been delayed two hours because of bad weather coming out of Toronto. His plane had touched down only half an hour ago so he didn1t have time to go to his hotel and freshen up and get settled in. Instead he got a taxi and went straight from the airport to the studio.
To make matters even more unsettling it was his birthday. He wasn1t too happy that the producers had planned a taping for his birthday, he1d have much rather been at home, as much as he loved doing the show.
The taxi pulled up to the front of the studio and Colin absent-mindedly handed the taxi driver the amount of the fare, but forgot to tip him. The driver gave Colin a dirty look, which Colin didn1t even notice, and drove away in a cloud of smoke.
Colin picked up his travel bag and trudged through the front door of the studio. The main lobby was darkened, but Colin could hear people rustling. Suddenly the lights turned on and Ryan, Greg, Wayne and Drew jumped up from behind various pieces of furniture. The four of them then launched into singing Happy Birthday. Colin smiled at his friends as they did this, especially when they got to the last line and sung it just like Colin would sing it.
"Happy birthday buddy, how does if feel to have reached the big 5-0?" said Ryan patting Colin on the back.
"Ha ha Ryan, I'm not that old yet," said Colin grinning at Ryan.
"I hate to spoil all the fun, but we got to get to rehersa, lets cut the cake and go," said Drew.
"Cake? Wow thanks guys," said Colin as Ryan led him to the table where a cake and a present sat. Wayne handed him a knife to cut it.
"Ahhhh! Colin's got a sharp object!" Greg pretended to scream in mock horror.
Colin pretended to go after Greg with the knife and they all laughed. Colin cut the cake and distributed it amongst them. As they were eating, Ryan picked up the present on the table and he and Greg smiled at each other. Handing it to Colin he said, "Here Col, this is from all of us to you."
"Thanks," said Colin, setting his cake down to take the present. "I wonder what it could be." Colin began to unwrap the present. Ryan, Greg, Drew and Wayne all started smiling. Colin opened the box and looked in. Inside was a furry blonde mass. He lifted it out of the box to get a better look at it. It was a toupee.
Colin was silent for a moment, just looking at it taking it all in. Then he spoke, with a strange look on his face, "What the heck is this for?"
"Why for the top of your head of course. What else?" said Ryan trying to contain his laughter
"Is this some kind of joke or something?" asked Colin. The four guys stopped smiling. They could tell that Colin wasn’t taking this quite the way that they had hoped he would.
Drew, smiling, said, "Come on Colin its just a little birthday joke you know. We thought you’d find it funny. You’ve always found our bald jokes funny before."
Colin was getting angrier. "Well I don’t find this one very funny! You guys always make jokes about me being bald in almost every single show! I am sick and tired of it all. Will you guys lay off for once? It’s my birthday dammit!" With that Colin stomped off out of the main lobby to their dressing room, slamming the door loudly behind him.
Ryan, Greg, Wayne, and Drew all looked around at each other nervously. "He left his bag out here," said Wayne lamely.
"Well I’m certainly not bringing it into him," said Greg dryly.
"I nominate Ryan for giving it to him. The toupee was his idea after all," said Drew.
"Heck no, I’m not going in there. He’d bite my head off. Besides, you guys were in the plan as much as I was. If he wants his bag he can come and get it himself," said Ryan.
"Why’d he take it so personally?" wondered Wayne aloud.
"He was late coming here . . ." said Drew.
"So? He was what, half an hour late. No big deal, plus its just rehearsal. Nothing worth stressing over at all," said Greg.
"Well," said Ryan, "For whatever reason he’s so mad, we better be nice or else we are going to have a very miserable day."
The rest nodded in agreement. Suddenly, Ryan’s cell phone went off. "Oh great, wonder who that is," said Ryan. "Hello?"
"Hey Ryan, it’s Brad," said the voice coming on the line. "How did Colin take the lovely gift? I was so sad I couldn’t make it to see the look on his face."
Ryan cupped his had over the phone, "It’s Brad, wondering how it went," he said to the rest of the guys. Into the phone he said, "It didn’t go well at all. Colin must be in a bad mood or something because he took major offense at it and stomped into the dressing room in a huff. The rest of us are afraid to go into there."
Brad laughed as he said, "Well I’m glad I’m not there after all. Look, I got to go, tell the other guys good luck. I’ll talk to you later."
Ryan shook his head as he put away his phone. "Brad thought it was pretty funny, but after all, he’s not even here. He wished us good luck too."
"Well we’re gonna need it too. We need to start rehearsing within ten minutes. And I am not going to be the person getting Colin out of the dressing room.
"Neither am I," said the rest of the guys in unison.
