Nicole Kidman
Whereas not-quite-A-list Australian performers (Cate Blanchett, Naomi Watts, Frances O'Connor, Portia di Rossi, Rachel Griffiths etc) really are Australian, the most famous Aussies - well, a lot of them - aren't technically Australian; Mel Gibson was born in New York, Russell Crowe's from New Zealand, and Nicole Kidman came into this world via Hawaii. But then again, how many people insist on calling Kim Cattrall and Jerry Springer "Brits" (they were both born in the UK) or describing Natalie Portman as a Jew (not so much on religious grounds; she was born in Jerusalem)? Let us forget it and move on. The ex-Mrs. Cruise is now free as a bird, and the more she goes on the more people forget they used to say she couldn't act. Now who's got the last laugh? (Especially now that she will forever be known as "Academy Award-winning Nicole Kidman.")
