The world of popular entertainment is crammed with people who make up in power what they lack in size. In 2002, the small (less than five feet) but perfectly formed Shakira made her English-language bow with Laundry Service, and in particular "Whenever Wherever," an infectious ode to her lover accompanied by a blistering video - think Christina Aguilera with ten times the sex appeal and a vastly reduced ego. And the ability to actually speak Spanish, thereby enabling her to record Spanish albums without the help of phonetics. (Memo to everyone giving her a hard time due to her not having English as a first language: how many languages can you speak?) Fantastic visually, and great on record (I suspect she gets it in the neck from some people because she sings without an American or English accent), she immediately shows up the likes of Kylie and J-Lo for the timewasters that they are. And if ever a woman deserved to be praised for her behind, it's Shakira Elizabeth Ripoll...
Recommended viewing: Every time she turns her back to the camera. And the videos and concerts. (The only TV appearances not linked to concerts are the Colombian TV series The Oasis - which led to her bottom receiving its first (but not last) public recognition - and an episode of Nickelodeon's Taina as herself.)
