Movies

My Fellow Americans - I’m a Jack Lemmon fan, so this was the reason I rented this in the first place, years ago. I totally forgot that Dan was in it and I dug it out and watched it again. He’s pretty much a creep in this one, but he has that appealing quality and you gotta love the jogging scene!

Sgt. Bilko - Another movie I rented for a non-Dan reason. Phil Hartman holds a special place in my heart, so that was why I rented this one. Dan makes a great military guy. I don’t much care for the buzz cut, but he looked cool barking orders at people.

The Blues Brothers - One of the best! If you’re a Dan fan and you don’t like this movie, there is something wrong with you. I see Dan and Elwood as two separate people, and it’s amazing how he can pull that off so well. It’s like two-for-one! And watching this movie got me into John Belushi, too. Elwood singing, dancing, driving and playing the harp....what more could you ask for? Well, there is that shirtless scene!

Blues Brothers 2000 - OK, I went years without seeing this. I refused to watch a Blues Brothers movie without Jake and I couldn’t stand the thought of John Goodman and some kid being inserted into the group. About a year ago, I caught it on TV and started watching. John Goodman did a pretty good job, and when I saw that kid dancing, I had to like him. Elwood was as good as ever dancing and singing. The music was great and it had all the action the first movie had. Nothing can beat the original, but I had no problems with this movie.

Grosse Pointe Blank - Dan as a sleazy hit man. The start of the movie when they show him was my favourite part. He looked cool coming out from around the corner. He sure knows how to handle a gun in this one, and he’s got several funny lines.

Celtic Pride - One of my favourites. The best parts are when Dan and his friend are at the ballgame and Dan starts singing, and when they’re in the bar and he dances across the floor and looks totally psychotic. He’s a little nutty, and that makes it all the more fun.

Trading Places - Probably my favourite movie! Dan and Eddie Murphy are hilarious in this movie and really go good together. Seeing Dan as a rich guy turned bum is fun to watch. Seeing him go nuts in a Santa suit is amusing as well.

Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom - Very small part towards the start when the airplane scene comes in. Cool accent even though you only get one semi-close-up shot.

Spies Like Us - Another good one. Dan and Chevy Chase are great together as they try and stay alive in the desert while being chased by the bad guys. They get into some sticky situations together and even meet some girls along the way. A nice funny spy movie.

Chaplin - Got this one because I’m an Anthony Hopkins fan and never watched it until I was in my Dan phase. Not a very large part but he plays a big shot movie maker and he wears a goofy hat. There’s a scene where he’s getting a massage and he has his shirt off. Woo woo!

Diamonds - Another good one packed with tons of Danny goodness. He wants to spend some time with his son and his father so they go off on a diamond hunt and run into some adventures on the way there, while learning a bit more about each other. A highlight is the scene when Dan is in bed with a woman and he’s smoking a joint. Check out that messy hair!

She's Having A Baby - Dan’s only in this one at the credits when they have various celebrities talking about baby names and such. He looks like he just stepped off “The Great Outdoors” set.

Casper - Very small cameo where he runs out of the haunted house. Someone says, “Who y’gonna call?” and he says, “Someone else!” and runs away, dressed in his complete Ghostbusters gear.

Getting Away With Murder - Another Dan-filled movie. This one also features Jack Lemmon as a German neighbor to Dan. Dan thinks Jack committed horrible crimes in Germany, and he plans to kill him. The thoughts consume him in the process.

My Girl - Sweet little movie. I remember seeing this one years ago when it was first out. Loved the interaction between him and Jamie Lee Curtis. His daughter copes with him being a mortician and she has a hypochondriac problem as well. Her best friend is a little neighbor boy and the movie explores the friendship between the two.

My Girl 2 - Almost as good as the first one, but not quite. This time Dan’s daughter goes out to stay with her uncle, lady friend and her kid, in California while Dan and his wife have a baby. His daughter gathers information for her school report that she’s doing on her deceased mother and she tries to find out what a number on a paper bag meant to her mother.

Neighbors - One of the weirdest Dan movies I’ve ever seen! John Belushi plays a pretty relaxed, boring guy with a wife. Dan and his wife move in next door and they’re both really nutty and annoying. They play mind games with John while John’s wife doesn’t seem to mind. The torture that the put him through is hilarious. Originally, Dan was gonna be the laid back guy and John was to be the wild neighbor, but they rewrote the parts and I think it turned out much better this way. Dan looks very different with blonde hair and a gleaming tooth, but in a good way!

1941 - Another pairing of Dan and John Belushi. John is a pilot during the war and is a little out there. Dan gets knocked on the head while riding on the tank and he does some crazy stuff that’s sure to make you laugh. He looks pretty cool as a soldier.

Antz - Dan does the voice of the male Wasp. Doesn’t much sound like him at first, but you can tell it’s him. He makes a cute bee!

Twilight Zone: The Movie - Dan’s part is at the very start. He’s the passenger in the car with a guy who’s tape player gets eaten right in the middle of “Midnight Special” so they have to stop singing and play TV Theme Songs. Dan does some awesome themes and then reveals his secret to the driver. Later on, he makes another appearance as the same character, only this time he’s driving the ambulance in the segment starring John Lithgow in a remake of the original segment that starred WIlliam Shatner years ago. Dan’s wife, Donna Dixon, also appears in this segment on the plane as the Junior Stewardess. I’d cruise around with Dan looking like he did in this movie, even if I knew his secret ahead of time!

Sneakers - Cool movie! I never cared for Robert Redford, but he was decent in this movie. A bunch of spy-tech guys trying to figure things out and keep themselves alive in the process. Dan looks adorable with a hat on backwards and the necklace he wears is neat.

Feeling Minnesota - Dan as a tough guy on the shady side. He roughs a few people up throughout the movie, and there’s a nice shot of his boxers as he runs down the stairs at one point towards the end.

Doctor Detroit - The movie where Dan met his wife, Donna Dixon. Strange but fun movie about a nerdy guy who stands in as a pimp. He takes on a tough intimidating persona in order to scare away the troublesome Mom and her henchmen in order to keep his girls out of her hands.

Dragnet - Classic movie. I watched it long ago and thought it was stupid. Watching it more recently, I liked it. Best moment would have to be Dan dressed as a punk, complete with Mohawk. His monotone voice got on my nerves and the fact that he was such a straight arrow. But, that’s how the movie goes.

The Great Outdoors - Another favourite of mine! Dan and John Candy are incredible together. The scenery is beautiful as family gets together for a vacation and realize it’s nearly impossible to be around each other in the same location. Many laughs and lots of excitement with raccoons, a bat and a bear.

The Couch Trip - And yet, another favourite of mine. Dan is in a mental institution but he gets out with a little help from the secretary. He poses as his doctor and gets a job filling in for a radio psychiatrist, played by Charles Grodin, whom I adore. Walter Matthau wants a piece of the action in exchange for his silence. Dan is a riot in this one. Donna Dixon also has a good role.

Ghostbusters - What can I say? You gotta love this one! Dan plays Doctor Ray Stantz, of course, and zappin’ ghosts is what he does best. I loved this movie when it first came out, and I still do. The siren on the Ecto is one of my favourite things.

Ghostbusters II - Another one for the collection! Their back and as fun as ever. I saw this one with my mom and friend in the theatre. I know some people aren’t as thrilled with this one as they are with the original, but I think it’s a great movie. I’ll never tire of these guys!

Nothing But Trouble - Now I know a lot of people can’t stand this movie, but come on! It’s pure genius! That make-up and costume on Dan alone is worth something! Dan plays not one, but two characters, as does John Candy. Chevy Chase is also in this one, so that’s another plus. Dan plays this grotesque judge who runs a very strict and deadly court. Chevy and his friends tried to get away, but it only got them into more trouble. This movie is just so strange, it’s awesome! Keep an eye out for the dancing, organ-playing Judge and also keep a close watch on his nose during the dinner scene!

Exit To Eden - Dan and Rosie O’Donnell team up as undercover cops on an island of sexual hijinx. Dan has a mustache, which I don’t much care for, but he also has a hat-wearing scene, not to mention one where he gets dressed up for the occasion, complete with collar!

This Is My Life - Dan eats paper! How can you not love that? He doesn’t have a huge role, but he’s amusing in a strange way when you do see him. A woman who has two daughters wants to be a comedian and she gets some help from Dan.

Loose Cannons - One of my other favourites! Dan’s impersonations are hilarious. I never liked Gene Hackman, but ever since this movie, I haven’t minded him. Gene is a cop who gets a new partner, Dan, who happens to be brilliant at what he does, but he had a bad experience which left him a bit loose in the head. Certain things set him off into loony-land and Gene has to put up with him.

Coneheads - One of those must-see Dan movies. Dan brings back “Saturday night Lives” Beldar Conehead as his family settles on Earth to do some learning before going back to their home planet. Phil Hartman and many other stars appear in this movie as well. A lot of laughs, wacky fun and an interesting look at the lives of friendly aliens.

Driving Miss Daisy - Something I didn’t think I would like, but I loved the story and the meaning. A stubborn white woman has to deal with a black man driving her around and helping out around the house because her son, Dan, feels safer knowing she has someone to keep an eye on her now that she’s getting older.

Dying To Get Rich - Strange but interesting movie about a group of people plotting to kill a guy. They keep messing things up, so they have Dan lend a hand. Dan looks really different in this role. He’s a serious tough guy packin’ a gun, he needs to shave and he wears a bandana on his head and a leather jacket.

Into The Night - Dan has a very small part at the start as merely an office worker. Nothing memorable, but at least he was in it.

Evolution - Amusing movie. I thought it was gonna be different than it was, but it was more on the serious side. Some unbelievable things, but also some believable ones. Dan isn’t in it too much, but he wants his town to be free from the problems that it encounters. A few alien life forms and a lot of science. Not a bad movie, and it’s got a slightly different feel to it than some other movies dealing with these sorts of things.

House Of Mirth - I started watching this and it wasn’t really my type of movie. Had it not been for Dan, I woulda thought it was boring. At first his character bored me, but then I saw it had a twist, so it got interesting. If anything, the old-time fancy clothes he wore made it worth the watch. He looked incredible!

Canadian Bacon - John Candy makes this movie, but it was neat to see Dan playing a highway patrolman. I’m sure he really enjoyed it himself. The movie was pretty amusing. Canada and the USA battling it out for all the wrong reasons.

My Stepmother Is An Alien - Yep, another one of my favourites! I saw this one years ago, but forgot most of it, and I certainly didn’t remember Dan being in it. Which is weird, since he was the leading man. An alien woman comes to Earth and tries to coax brainiac Dan to help her without letting him know about it. They get involved and his daughter finds out that the woman is an alien but nobody believes her. Dan has some nutty parts and the bedroom scene is one of the best. So is the next morning when his hair is out of control.

Love At First Sight - Dan plays a blind guy who meets a girl who’s parents aren’t too thrilled about her choice in a boyfriend. They travel together in order to get away and start a new life. Kinda boring with dry humour, but Dan does the part like a natural. Different than his usual movies.

Pearl Harbor - Excellent portrayal of the war. Dan has a rather small role, but it’s an important one. The movie not only focuses on the events of the war, but also two close friends who have to cope with being in love with the same woman under complicated circumstances.

Crossroads - Great friendship movie about three girls who were friends when they were young, but drifted apart during school years, only to get back together again to drive across the country with a guy they just met. Dan plays an father who's a little too strict when it comes to his daughter and her future. Yeah, I thought it'd be kinda corny, but it was a good movie.

Tales From The Crypt: Yellow - Dan plays a Captain in the war against Germany helping to deal with a scared soldier. A bit bloody, but Dan barks out some great orders and looks good in a uniform. Not a bad episode.

Saturday Night Live

The Best Of Dan Aykroyd - Great clips from Dan’s “Saturday Night Live” days. If you had a favourite sketch or character, it’s probably on this video, including “Rubber Biscuit” sung by Elwood!

SNL Tribute To John Belushi - Dan is included in a few of the clips celebrating the great work John did on “Saturday Night Live.” Dan also says s small moving speech about his good friend.

Saturday Night Live - Dan at his best! Young and energenic along with his buddy John Belushi and some of the best stuff ever to appear on SNL. The only other cast I like is the one which featured Phil Hartman.

1995 Saturday Night Live [Dan As Host & Tragically Hip] - Great sketch with Dan as Bob Dole. Adorable photo at the start credits of Dan. He and John Goodman introduce the show in Blues Brothers mode and perform “Flip, Flop And Fly.” Dan also does a sketch as Tom Schneider and introduces the band wearing a cool Canada t-shirt. Several other sketches by Dan are just as funny. During the end of the show, he’s got on a leather jacket and his hair is slicked back. Lookin’ good!

1998 Saturday Night Live [With Cameron Diaz & Smashing Pumpkins] - Quick sketch with Dan and Steve Martin as two wild and crazy guys! Still look funky in those outfits and still got the dance moves! The end of the show has Dan wearing a nice white button shirt and a vest.

1998 Saturday Night Live [With John Goodman] - Dan appears in the first sketch as Bob Dole, and then comes out with John Goodman and does “Lookin’ For A Fox” in Blues Brothers mode. A few great photos of Dan and John together, and at the end of the show, he’s lookin’ hip in a t-shirt and open button shirt with a hat.

2001 Saturday Night Live [With John Goodman & Paula Cole] - Dan does several different characters including some well-known ones. John Goodman appears as Mack and he and Elwood sing “The Letter” in grayish-blue postal Blues Brothers outfits after doing the news commentary. Dan in a tux eating a banana is a must-see. You also catch a glimpse of him with slicked-back hair playing the harmonica to lead the show into a commercial. At the end of the show, he hides behind John and peeks around, wearing all black and his hair still slicked back. Woo!

2002 Saturday Night Live [With Britney Spears] - Dan in a skiing sketch. He also introduces Britney’s song. Wanna see Dan dressed completely in leather? Check this episode out! He also wears a very cool black jacket with the word Canada across it in white letters.

E! News - News about the Blues Brothers on SNL and the upcoming debut of classic SNL on the E! channel.

Saturday Night Live Goes Political - CD-Rom of SNL clips all having to do with politics. Includes some funny impression by Dan as President Carter, Bob Dole and more.

TV Tales: Saturday Night Live - Special focusing on the start of SNL up to the present day. Includes great Dan and John clips, plus interview footage of Dan.

Shows/Specials

The Best Of The Blues Brothers - This is a must see! Jake and Elwood clips galore! Dan AND Elwood at the same table chatting back and forth about the good ole days. You even get to go into the bathroom with Elwood. The live stuff is wonderful and it’s the closet thing you’ll get to ever seeing the band perform.

Soul Man (Series) - I have a few episodes of this show and I really wish it had been on longer. I thought it was a great show. Just the intro alone was cool because you got to see Dan on a motorcycle and then he dances. Plus he looks good in black, and since he played a minister, he wore it pretty often. The drum pad set he had in his office was a big plus, too. Oh, and I can’t forget one of the best parts....glasses!

Home Improvement - I missed the first half of this one and only caught the last half by chance. Dan is appearing as his Father Mike character from “Soul Man.” Hip clothes, glasses, shades and a hat make it worthwhile!

Spies Like Us Video - Short video by Paul McCartney with Dan and Chevy in the studio. The three of them goof off in between clips of the movie.

Inside The Playboy Mansion - Very quick clip of Dan attending a gathering at the Mansion. He shakes hands with Hugh and looked great!

Regis & Kelly: 11 February 2002 - Dan was on here talking about his new movie, “Crossroads.” He also tells the story about knowing people who were in the World Trade Centre disaster and a ring that was found in the rubble.

Psi Factor - Dan is the host of this fact-based show focusing on the paranormal. Very interesting stories that really make you think.

John Candy E! True Hollywood Story - Fascinating look inside the life of John Candy with Dan sharing some of the memories he had of John. His hair is slicked back, he’s wearing black and he has glasses on. Looks great!

House Of Blues Concert - I only have the last song, which is “Soul Man” on my tape, but it’s better than nothing. Jim Belushi does a terrific job on lead vocals. I never cared for him much until I saw how well he could sing. Some of the guys looked a bit hot since they had their jackets off.

Sgt. Bilko Interview - Steve Martin, Phil Hartman and Dan make this a fun-filled interview. Lots of laughs, great stories and awesome clips from the movie.

Howard Stern - The cast showed a clip of Howard's fake reporter trying to ask Dan a bunch of questions at some party and Dan got fed up and insisted the guy leave. He wouldn't leave so he had the guy thrown out. I remember seeing this and thinking how I'd hate to get Dan mad cos he looked furious, but who wouldn't be in that situation? He had a walkie talkie and called for security when he was asking the guy to leave because it wasn't the place for those types of questions.

John Belushi: E! True Hollywood Story - Great footage of both John and Dan. Helps you to understand how things were with John and although it focuses heavily on the drug scene, it had a lot of great photos.

Gilda Radner's Greatest Moments - Some SNL footage that included Dan. A great documentary on the life of Gilda.

Gilda: It's Always Something - Wonderful and touching story on the life of Gilda, starting from her childhood. The ending was done beautifully, and it didn't actually show her die. The movie was done in a narrative form. Dan Di Julio portrayed Dan and the other actors they got as the cast members did a terrific job as well.

According To Jim - Funny episode where Jim is pulled over by a cop, who's actually his old friend, Danny. They relive their wild days at the bar, but can't keep up with the pace anymore. A short song at the end with some fine harp playing by both of them.

1984 MTv Video Music Awards - Dan does some great impressions and wears a space suit. Lots of laughs and he looks great! He hosts the show with Bette Midler. Very amusing.

Music

My Fellow Americans Soundtrack - Classic oldies make for a walk down memory lane.

House Of Blues Radio Hour (Hosted By Elwood, Featuring Dan as Guest) - Great tunes hosted by Elwood. One of the shows has Dan in the studio with Elwood. Elwood works for Dan and refers to him as his boss, giving him a big introduction in attempt to get a raise, but Dan doesn’t fall for it. Fun way to share good music and artists with the listeners.

The Blues Brothers Soundtrack - Hip tunes that you can never tire of listening to! If you liked the movie, you’ll love the album!

Blues Brothers 2000 Soundtrack - I like this one a lot because you get to hear Dan do lead vocals a bit more than on the other Blues Brothers CDs.

Briefcase Full Of Blues CD - Great album with two of my favourites, “Soul Man” and “Rubbert Buscuit!”

Made In America CD - A live Blues Brothers album that let’s you hear the guys in action.

The Best Of The Blues Brothers - Lots of hits by the guys. This is one of my favourite albums because almost all of the best songs are on here, minus a few of the ones I like.

Everybody Needs The Blues Brothers CD - Like the Best Of album, but with more songs!

The Definitive Collection CD - There’s a lot of Blues Brothers hits crammed onto this album making it THE one to carry around with you.

Red, White And Blues CD - An older Elwood jams on a couple of these tunes, playing the harp and also delivering some great vocals.

The Blues Brothers And Friends Live From The House Of Blues CD - Some of the greats come together to perform a bunch of the classics.

Ghostbusters Soundtrack - Gotta love the title song! The others bring back memories of the movie. Very catchy stuff!

Ghostbusters II Soundtrack - I had the “Love Is A Cannibal” single for ages in school and I listened to it a dozen or so times during one class period. I don’t think I even made the connection at the time. Not as good as the original movie’s soundtrack, but still enjoyable.

Loose Cannons Theme - Took me a while to realize Dan was in this song along with Katey Sagal. Very interesting tune!

And We're Wearing Sunglasses!

Take Me Home!
